So for Core Advanced Studies classes, they can be any 300-400 course outside your department?

Will the 300-400 level courses I am taking for my minor (in another department and college) be applicable as core advanced studies?

Thank you!

Yes. D1’s German classes (her minor) satisfied this criteria.

What’s the difference between UL Electives and Core AS? Is it just that Core AS can’t be those experimental classes that some departments have?

No I think they’re the same thing. Like for my major I have to take an upper-level elective (either in the department or from a set list of courses in related departments). So I think if it’s in the same department (like BSCI or SOCY, the same 4 letters) then it can’t count, but otherwise, if it has a different code than your major, it can.

I should probably just ask my advisor haha

Oh ok. I have to take 3 UL Electives outside my major (listed as any 300/400 class outside my department) and then I have to take 2 Core AS’s, which also are listed as any 300/400 class outside my department. It makes me paranoid there’s some key difference I’m missing lol.

Ah. I don’t think every major has an upper-level elective requirement, since according my 4 year plan I only have to take 1 Core AS…weird.

For fall 2012 incoming freshmen, there are new Gen Ed requirements which will be replacing the CORE requirements:
