The books I've read recommend to choose a core class over an elective. My counselor has also voiced this opinion. I'm very interested in taking the psychology elective at my school, but should I sacrifice an AP class for it?

Well, it depends. No for most cases. If you’re applying to a safety for you and that happens to be your top choice, go right ahead and take the elective.

But if you’re applying anything competitive, the AP is better, unless you’ll do amazing in psych and it is major related.

There’s an AP Psyc. Does your school offer this? It is a AP class so it would look good (even though it’s technically an elective).

Which AP class? Dropping something like AP Calculus BC or AP English Literature may be viewed differently from dropping something like AP Human Geography or AP Environmental Science.
