Core courses as electives

My son is finishing the 1st semester of his freshman year. He is in the honors program and took 9 AP classes in high school. Due to this fact he has basically completed his core requirements. He is a history major but hasn’t decided if he wants to double major or what he wants to minor in. Was wondering if he could take some courses that are listed as core and would those fulfill elective credits or must he take level 1 or 2 for electives. Seems like a lot of classes for his major have already been taken up by upper classman. Just don’t want him signing up for courses that he doesn’t really need. Advice???

sorry beach, but the History website is silent on the subject. Some departments – Philosophy, for example – will allow a Core course to be used as a PL elective for the major (after completing the required two Core courses).

Your best bet is for your son to to e-mail a History advisor and inquire.

fwiw: if he has an interest in other courses, tell him to keep checking Agora. Students constantly change schedules and drop courses, freeing up a spot. But he has to act quickly before another student finds it and takes that open spot.
