Core Curriculum Class Descriptions

Hello all,

I’m currently working on my schedule. I found the list of classes that satisfy each core requirement, but I can’t find the description for the classes. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Go here: [The University of Alabama Fall 2012?Summer 2013 Undergraduate Catalog < The University of Alabama](http://courseleaf.ua.edu/)

Then click on the link to the college that offers the course you want to know about (you’ll find the link in the left hand column of the page).

When you get to that college’s page, click on the “Courses” link (it’s in a red block at the top/center of the page) and . . . voila, you’ll find things such as these!

I’m confused about “Then click on the link to the college that offers the course you want to know about.” If I need to find the descriptions for the Fine Arts core classes, do I have to go to the College of Arts and Sciences and find the classes? Is there no link for just the classes that satisfy the core requirement?

^^^I really like those AMS courses. Saw one with a Twilight Zone theme. How cool is that?

If there’s a direct link to the course descriptions for core requirements, I’m not aware of it. Maybe someone else can weigh in.

Here’s where you find the list of core requirements: [Core Curriculum – General Studies Course Listing | The Office of the University Registrar - The University of Alabama](http://registrar.ua.edu/academics/core-curriculum/general-studies/#tab=tab-1)

If, for example, you click on the link above and then click on the tab that shows you the list of HU, L, and FA list, you’ll see that both UH 210 and ART 251 meet the FA requirement. But UH 210 is taught by the Honors College and ART 251 is taught by the Dept. of Art and Art History, which resides in the College of Arts and Sciences.

So, to find the course description for UH 210, use the link I provided in my original post above (which takes you to the Course Catalog), click on “Honors at Alabama,” then “Courses.”

For ART 251, use the link to the Course Catalog, click on “Arts and Sciences” (i.e. the college), then “Art and Art History” (i.e. the department–located in the right-hand column), then “Courses.”

If someone has an easier method, please let us know. Otherwise, I hope this helps. :)

Tres kewl, Montegut. I’m with you all the way on the AMS courses.

That makes sense. Thank you!

On the course search page of myBama, click on advanced search rather than a subject/department. On that page, select all the subjects/departments, and then select FA under course attributes. Click search and look at classes that seem interesting. Catalog links are available after clicking on the course. Repeat these steps for other core curriculum requirements.

You are the bomb, SEA_tide.

I agree, malanai. That was awesome. Great advice, Seatide!

I’ll pass the information along, SEA_tide. Thanks!

A handy table pertinent to this thread:

[Department, Program and Course Alpha Symbols < The University of Alabama](http://courseleaf.ua.edu/introduction/academicpolicies/departmentprogramcoursealphasymbols/)

Scroll to the bottom of the table to see the legend for the Division abbreviations.
