core curriculum, engineering school

Many Jesuit universities offer a core curriculum, and I'm wondering if there is such a thing at SLU. Also, is it only offered in the college of arts and sciences, or is it also offered/required for engineering majors? Anyone have a link to where I can find out what courses satisfy these core requirements, if there are any?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Montegut!

Click on the link above, then choose the specific degree you’re interested in. At the bottom of the page should be a list of all the classes required for the major, or a link to a downloadable form of classes required. For example, BME requires a liberal arts core thats 22 credit hours. As far as I know every major at SLU has at least a few liberal arts classes at its core.

I’m interested in what courses son will be able to choose from for his core requirements. Some schools are more flexible than others in what they’ll allow to satisfy core requirements.

I would say Parks probably has the most “strict” scheduling, honestly. If you look at the "BME General Degree Requirements " page, everything without a course number next to it will offer flexibility in what you can choose.

To see course offerings for this semester for the whole school, look here:

This is what students use to register, but there’s a link on the page in red where you can search classes without logging in.

I took all sorts of crazy stuff, from a Contemporary Fiction class, to Irish Film, to Russian Food & Culture.

Son would love that Irish film class. He is very much interested in film studies and may even minor in it. I’ve been trying to find a link where it lists acceptable courses for humanities, fine arts, literature, history core curriculum requirements. Some colleges have pages of options, some colleges have less than ten, and you have to choose three. Son is looking for a broad range of options where he will be more likely to find something that interests him. Thanks for the link for the class schedule. I will definitely check that out.
