does hopkins hav a core curriculum? for BME or biomolecular and chemical engineering there are like a set of classes i have to take right, and then the rest i can just choose? or can someone explain thsi to me thanks

There's no core curriculum per se. Each major has certain required course including a bunch in your major, a handful in areas outside your major (if you're an engineer, you have to take humanities classes; if you're a writing sems major, you have to take science/quantative classes etc) as well as a number of writing-intensive classes (2 for engineers, 4 for Arts & Sciences majors). Check department websites for more info on what classes are required.

Your major specifies what classes you take. If you're majoring in Physics, no one will tell you that you have to take English 101! But the physics department will tell you to take 5-6 math classes :)

you basically have majort requirements (not a lot)
and distribution requirements (certain # of humanities classes, certain number of math...etc.)
and the usual writing intensive classes

all in all, Hopkins students generally enjoy lots of freedom when it comes to course selection. engineers...not so much.
