Hello all, does NYU have a core curriculum, and what are the courses that you're required to take?

i heard NYU doesnt accept any AP credits, especially AP Calculus BC...is this true???

no. NYU definitely accepts AP credit.

But I heard for calculus, you have to pass the AB test with a 5, and the BC test with a 3 in order to get credit..

I doubt with a 3. I remember one of them said 4s and 5s.

All information about the core is here...

NYU > College of Arts and Science > Morse Academic Plan

So that means you've got to take two math courses and two science courses at least? Is there no way to avoid math/science courses in college? :(

^^^lmao .

Stern doesn't take Calc, Stats, or Econ credits. The different schools have different qualifications.

nicknnora: don't worry too much - you can take really easy math / science classes. I think I might've taken astronomy for my science credit~

You can get out of Math and Science with atleast a 4 on AP Science in addition to a 4 on an AP Math exam. I believe you can get out of Math for the core by getting atleast 750 on the SAT Reasoning.

So there are four components to the MAP... which means if you don't get any exemptions how many required courses are there? And for the FSI, you need to take three courses overall - one in Quantitative Reasoning, one in Natural Science I and one in Natural Science II?

Yeah that's right. Aside from QR and the 2 Nat Sci's you need:

Writing the Essay
Conversations of the West
World Cultures
Foreign Language (up to Intermediate II, so 4 classes unless you place out)
Expressive Cultures (unless you major in a Humanity)
Societies (basically any intro Social Science Class).

Okay, thank you for that info! That really helped. Is there a page on the website that lists all the courses that can be taken to fill up the requirements?

NYU > CAS > Bulletin > Admission

scroll all the way to the bottom (for CAS). it tells you that you can place out of those few requirements, depending on your AP scores

I'm placed out of Math and Foreign Language and I'm taking Biology 1 at UCLA this summer. So does that mean I only have ConWest, Writing essay, World Cultures, Expressive Cultures, and Societies? (and 1 science class)?

What do I do with the rest of my available classes then? Do I just take whatever I want?
