Core Duo or Pentium M

Which is the better buy for a laptop? The Core Duo or Pentium M? How much difference in battery consumption is there?

Also, does anyone know if it is possible to overclock Dell Laptops?

Id go with the core duo. Battery consumption is about the same and the core duo is a little bit faster.

Core Duo is way better

Core Duo is the latest technology. Note that they are replacing the Pentium M with the Core Solo, which is still less powerful than Core Duo. For long-term use go with Core Duo.

Core Duo...more up to date, faster, better in every respect.

What about a Turion?

Core Duo Core Duo Core Duo

Turion is just about the same as Pentium M or Core Solo. Core Duo still beats it.

If you're going to buy one soon, wait a few months. Core Duo prices will be dropping May 29th.

Turion is a good choice if you want to run 64bit windows vista in the future. it is the only mobile 64bit chip on the market. I could go into the technical advantages of the turion vrs the core duo but it really would be a waste of time. the core duo has the turion beat because of the dual cores in speed so get the core duo.

I heard that the Core Duo was better.

why does windows vista have to come out in jan, 6 months after i get my fricking laptop?!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

(sorry, had to get that off my chest)

Yea I won't buy until like July so I hope prices will drop by then. I guess I'll go with the Core Duo

The first versions of these things always contains various bugs and whatnot. It's better to just wait a while for them to release patches for everything before buying it. It's not like it contains anything that you need (or at least can't emulate on Windows XP).

don't get Windows Vista

2000 > XP > feces > the rest of Windows

for now, duo core is better. However, most people will not take advantage of dual core's function. P-M is good enough for average computer user

Windows Vista won't be a stable OS (relatively speaking) until 2008.

Core Duo is better, as others have said.

two words: core DUO

dual core Turion, ships in May

Is the core duo more than the p-m? If so, and cost is a consideration, go with the p-m.
