Hello,
I was just accepted into the College of Engineering's CoRe Experience, and I really only have 2 questions. I was basically just looking for what people thought about this. Thanks in advance to anybody who helps!

What have people thought of this before? Was it a good experience?

What is Wilson Hall like in terms of social life? (I like it quite to study)

Well you should just go to University of Michigan Dearborn! It’s a great school and you don’t have to worry about living on campus because there are no dorms! I know you got accepted there why don’t you join me! You will find many smart people there that would love to help you. All the people there are so friendly and helpful (especially in the business school). Let me know if you want more information or have any questions just give me a call you know my number!

Dearbornistan, that has nothing to do with the question. This isn’t the thread for that. As for the OP’s questions I don’t know the answer but I was invited as well and am also curious about it. If anyone knows anything don’t hesitate to help. Thank you.

I posted this question several weeks ago and did not get much…glad you are asking again. My son has also been accepted to CORE, but he wonders the same things you are. Wilson holds alot of kids and is a great location…but from my older two son’s experiences in college the dorm room is not generally a great place to study and I’m guessing you’ll find your secluded spot either somewhere in this dorm or somewhere else on campus.

@momofthreeboys,
I did see your post. I put up a new one to try to get more answers…hopefully it works. I just got my acceptance in the mail yesterday, so maybe some others did too, and will share what they know about it!

So are you saying that you have already had 2 kids that went through CoRe, or just the dorms in general?

Can anyone offer information on which classes are offered in Wilson? Is it strictly EGR 100 and 102? Are there other classes offered in Wilson?

@professionalmom
That was another thing I was wondering too. That is, if all of our classes are in there, like Calc and maybe some Comp Sci courses, because I’m not taking EGR 102 since I’m a Comp Sci major.
I did find something though. I’d hate to be that guy that gives you a link you’ve probably seen before, but this is the best I’ve got…

I tried to search around a little, but couldn’t find anything. I think it’s kind of odd how little information there is about this whole CoRe thing. It concerns me a little.

What have people thought of this before? Was it a good experience?

I didn’t care for it that much. I don’t feel like I got much out of it. It was more of a neutral experience for me. I feel like it mostly focused on ME majors (I believe that is who it was originally designed for too). I don’t really have anything negative to say about the program though.

What is Wilson Hall like in terms of social life? (I like it quite to study)

It depends on your floor. I’ve never had a huge problem with it being really loud. Sometimes on Thursday or Friday nights people might be a little loud but people were usually understand if you asked them to keep it down a little. There were never any crazy loud parties or anything like that. Studying there was easy but sometimes you do need to wear headphones.

3.Can anyone offer information on which classes are offered in Wilson?

EGR 100 and 102 are both in Wilson. Sometimes there are other classes that apply to your major taught in Wilson.

Overall I liked Wilson but was really indifferent about CoRe. I would still do CoRe just so I could live in Wilson (which beats being stuck out in Brody or Hubbard) if I were you guys.

ok. Thanks a lot for taking the time to tell us about it. That answers a lot of my questions! I only really have one more question.
What was your major, and how much work was it?
Was it more than the other students who weren’t in CoRe?

Thanks again!!!

I was in computer science. It was a lot of work, and it will always be a lot of work unless you are a super genius. Personally I struggled a lot and spend tons of hours in the labs trying to figure out my projects, plus hours studying for the math requirements. I ended up changing majors. My boyfriend is also a CS major, and he does spend a lot of time on his projects (you will usually have a project for each of your classes so it’s a lot of work). He loves it though and has had a ton of job offers, so the work is worth it.

I would not say my work was any more than the students who were not in CoRe. I never really had any extra work from CoRe.

I feel like I should mention that I was in CoRe my freshmen and sophomore year. I’m currently a senior so things may have changed a little. I’m not sure there is anyone else on the board who was in the program though so I figured I should speak up.

Well thank you for being so kind and posting. I am also going to be a CS major, so that really helped to answer my question!
