I have heard some people complain that the extensive core requirements at BC make it virtually impossible for students to branch out and take classes that they are interested in that may be unrelated to their major. To what extent is this true?

A standard major is ~10 courses, not counting any Frosh prereqs. Since BC requires 48 courses to graduate, you have plenty of room in your schedule for electives outside of the Core. Of course, the Core will also contain courses outside of your major. And, don’t forget, you can AP out of core requirements. You won’t receive course credit towards graduation (unless you accelerate and graduate in 3 years), but AP science course(s), for example, will fulfill the science core.
