I took the sats a year ago and have been studying since then. I’m taking them again in october, I’ve seen a big increase in my cr score from the practice tests so far.

No chance because you are female.

what does that mean!?

Don’t listen to the ■■■■■.

You have a pretty good chance of getting accepted.
Your stats are pretty solid, so you don’t have to worry about the SAT. I got in with a 1870/2400.
You really should consider focusing on the essay component instead.

You also might want to do a “combination of things” in the world that is very unique, and probably was not pursued by other people.

Also ED the school if you really want to come here.

Why would you believe playhacker or anyone for that matter?
Maybe this would be more helpful:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profiles/2013/cornell-university

I don’t know who the hell are you, but I’m in Cornell with those stats.
I did what I thought was enough to make me very likable to the admission people.
So don’t act like one of those stereotypical people who have to be 2200+ and do all these things just to be “well-rounded”

hey , are you talking to me or oldfort?

I believe playhacker was responding to oldfort.

Ok, so now that I know he was responding to me…But I really thought he was responding to OP.

playhacker - just because you got into Cornell, now you are the authority on who has a chance of getting into Cornell? I didn’t realize getting admittance into Cornell, suddenly made you an expert on admission.

For every student they admitted just like you, they probably rejected another 10 just like you. The answer is you probably have the stats, but who knows with any top tier schools.

playhacker, you can’t tell others to not worry about the SAT’s because you got an 1870 and got in. This doesn’t mean everybody with above an 1870 is going to get in and according to the average scores, your acceptance is obviously an anomaly. I’m not sure if you had strong essays or amazing extra curriculars but strong SAT’s are an important foundation for almost any application to a school like Cornell.

I don’t think anyone is understanding what I am saying.
She took the SAT already and has 700+'s with a magnificent total of 2200.
She doesn’t have to keep doing the SAT. The SAT is 25-30% of the Application. Do you think 200 more points is going to make her any more “fit”

And if you think that was an anomaly, I have two other RL friends going to top schools with lower SAT scores compared to me and didn’t have amazing extra curriculars, but actually took time to write the essay.
One scored in the 1800’s the other 1700’s. One went to Haverford, the other UPENN.

What about the other 70-75% of the Application
She has all this extra time to think about the essay.
Believe it or not, the essay requires a lot of revision which is a lot of time.
It’s also the only part you can technically control. The whole culture that 2200 is not adequate enough for top schools is not helping anyone.
I wanted her to start brainstorming topics for the essay soon.

And what the hell did you think I meant when I said “forget the SAT.”
I might as well have said “Don’t take the SAT, take the ACT” or even say “Skip the Writing Section.”
If I didn’t believe in the SAT’s, I wouldn’t have had to take it either.

When I said “why would you believe playhacker,” I didn’t mean what you said didn’t have any truth to it (and it wasn’t personal to you, but to everyone in general). It is just that admission process is so random once you get to a certain point, no one can tell you if you could get admitted or not.

What you said about essay and other “extra” stuff is all true. I have just seen so many students on this board, and my personal experience with my kid, nephew, friends to know there is no point in trying to “chance.”

OK, SO BACK ON TOPIC

You have good SAT/SATII grades and your extracurriculars look focused. One advice from me is to try to remember everything that you were in and incorporate that into your resume. I can’t honestly say whether or not you will get in, but I will say continue what you are doing and definitely apply. I believe that you do have a great chance.

haha thanks hero

Oh ya, and instead of saying “several other awards” list all the important ones.

you might get into Cornel
