Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship Applicants!

wait, we didn't have to put in transcripts into the scholarship application, did we? I thought they just said send the essay over and everything else they would already have from our apps?

The scholarship application was available on line. I do not believe it had to be mailed to anyone. I again feel that everyone should be held to the same standard. Sorry, but IMO, if a scholarship application is 3 weeks late it should be put in file 13. There are rules and deadlines for a reason. We all had to follow them. Why should the rules be different for someone else? Thats simply unfair. There is a thread in the parents forum about a dad who went ballistic because his daughter waited until the last minute to fill out a scholarship application. If she were given 3 extra weeks to fill it out, things would be quite different in that house.

You sound like you are whining about this. You don't understand what you are talking about at all. I emailed the office and they said they delayed the deadline to February 1st for EVERYONE, so stop being a baby.

^^^^ Never heard that the scholarship deadline was extended-- but perhaps that's because it was submitted on time :D

can the both of you stop posting until you hear something new about the scholarship?
I keep hoping for something useful.

^^^ Uh.... no. Was your post any more useful than any other?? I am sorry if you don't like the conversation, and I am sure if you are patient, you will hear news you want to hear.

Does anyone know when we will hear back?

I bet mid to late feb...

Has anybody bothered to read the information the left column (entitled "timeline") of this page? http://www.vanderbilt.edu/scholarships/signature.html

(I believe this would be the same page that lists the deadline for submission of the application... )

Are they going to notify non-finalists as well?

^^ perhaps you can email the scholarship office with this question and post their reply here.

Thought it might be worth mentioning, just as a passing thought, that there is no reason to engage in name-calling or insults. That doesnt make the waiting game any easier. FWIW, some of us DO know what we are talking about. Accusations to the contrary and name-calling are what whould be classified as whining and babyish-- not a polite reminder about deadlines.

We should all be hearing soon... mid feb= around the 14th?

Does anyone have any idea how notification will come? Email/Snail mail?

well i've heard we get notified via snail mail, but who knows maybe that could change this year.

im only a Jr, but basically my situation is if i get the scholarship, then i am DEFIITELY going to Vandy. not to boast, but i got a 33 ACT in Dec and i have a high gpa and EC's, so im kinda already in. scholarships are another story...have to get that 34! ARGH! well GOOD LUCK to all of yall and hopefully i will see you in 2 years!

lulu,
I see you are new to CC. While I congratulate you on your 34 ACT, good ECs and GPA, you should understand that there are a lot of kids with 34 ACTs, good ECs and GPAs. You should not assume that you are "kinda probably already in" to Vandy. Vandy's applications were up 30% this year (from something like 12,000 to 16,000 applications). As you spend more time on CC, I think you will see that, especially with the top schools, there is unfortunately no such thing as "probably already in".

jym is right. I've been here since late 2001 and have seen many folks with comparable stats or better rejected come late March (and some in the ED rounds). With the incredible increase in applications, it only stands to reason that we'll see those kinds of disappointments again this year. It seems that every year the board crashes in late March/early April and it's kind of like seeing who is still standing after smoke clears from a battle. I know it is tough on so many kids and may be made even harder by overconfidence. Better to expect the worst and hope for the best!

haha i like the analogy 2VU. i wasnt trying to sound arrogant, and i hope i didn't come off that way! i will still applying to other schools for "safety" like UGA just in case it doesnt work out. just being optimistic though.

*apply...sorry
