The scholarship process has changed in the last few years, so I am not familiar with the current terms. When S was admitted, there were fewer than 25 full ride scholarships (merit based) for the entire campus. However, partial scholarships (1/2 and 3/4) were commonly mentioned on this board for several years and combined merit/need grants were common. So, my question is, did the e-mail you received eliminate you from receiving any scholarship or just the full ride?

My DD received the e-mail...negative, no scholarship. However, I am so, so happy I discovered this college discussion web site, and I would like to thank everyone for their informative posts. Because of it, I was able to prepare my DD in the event of a rejection. Once in a while, I would relay to her info as to stats, ACT score, etc... She took the news well this morning. She probably expected it because the top student at her school (one of her friend) phoned her last night to tell her that he did not get the scholarship.

For what is worth, another one of her friend got in ED with a 26 ACT and a couple of "C" junior year. Based on what I know, I doubt that high stats are the deciding factor for scholarships or entrance at that school.

He was rejected from the Cornelius Vanderbilt, but email said would be considered for other awards. You know, the saddest thing for him was that the Vandy rep who visited his school told him he was almost guaranteed this scholarship with his stats, etc., not to mention another Vandy rep told him that one scholarship (Lanier) did not exist anymore, when in fact it does, add to that Vandy lost his complete application for several days - ugh - not a good experience

When my daughter phoned a while back, they also told her that they did not receive anything from her. We used courier because I wanted a tracking number, and when I look up my bank statement, they had passed the check. So, my D send them a e-mail with this info and a week later they replied "problem solved", and that they will not consider her application late. To this day, I thought that was stange.

Vandy is giving out a lot of money, so be patient. Chan. Zeppos is trying to make it economical for everyone. Unfortunately, I am paying full boat and it is worth it. He has really grown as an individual over these last two years and I know he is getting a great education. He is not just a number and he will graduate a semester early. Good luck to everyone and keep the faith.

I posted that I got rejected earlier, but my stats were:
1580/2340 SAT I, 3.8 UW, solid recs, EC's. Clearly, this scholarship was ridiculously competitive (makes sense considering how the economy is doing)

did anyone actually receive an email with good news? so far everyone has been saying that they were rejected. I didnt get an email at all though...

thejobe - I noticed that 3 of the rejections were for applicants from the South. You from up North, maybe you have a better chance. And yes, I would assumed that "no news" is better than a rejection e-mail. Unless they send e-mails out by region???

we got the reject letter, too. 1540 (800 CR and son has dyslexia). 3.8 GPA, Varsity Captain, Student government, etc. We weren't expecting it though.

I just read on another post that someone from the West Coast got the Chancelor scholarship.

Hey all, I got an email at 10 this morning notifying me that I got the scholarship.
I think I've posted my stats before, but again:
2400, 4.0 UW, 4.54ish W, 3/686, North, Asian (also got Mosaic, but can't attend).
This throws a twist in my college plans...
Good luck everyone! You guys all sound amazing.

pumpkin, what schools are on your son's list?

The manner in which these selections seem to be trickling out is very strange. I have a mental image of the committees pulling all-nighters.

Good not great ECs

I attended an information session at Vanderbilt in August. When the counselor spoke about the main competition scholarships, he made it clear that these were highly competitive and that most applicants had almost perfect stats. He said that they were looking for students with outstanding service, above and beyond the norm, or some other unusual accomplishment. So, I don't think stats alone will get you the scholarship.

How would you choose from 100 students with perfect SAT's or ACT's and over 4.0 GPA's? It has to be something else.

Everyone who applied is an outstanding student so be proud of your accomplishments.

I'm still perplexed that my daughter hasn't heard anything. I wouldn't necessarily expect her to get it (her stats are competitive but after seeing some of the rejections here it's obvious that any winner needs the good graces of a higher power), but I don't understand why the winner and collective runner-ups weren't notified all at the same time. She even double-checked her spam filter just to be sure.

I got it! My stats...35 ACT, 1560 SAT, Student body president, 10 APs ( 7 were 5's, 3 for this year), Honor Council 4 years, over 200 hours community service, worked part- time for 2 years, won states in my event in track and field last year, 3 SAT II's -all 800, National Merit Finalist, 2 college classes in biochemistry and microbiology scoring A's in both, Governors School, and many other awards and activities. I'm also from the South.
