Yeah definitely do not send your act score, not because it’s bad in any way. It’s just that if they find a similar applicant and have nothing else to compare, they will compare your ACT scores. You’re better off just sending the SAT score. Also, I think you have a decent shot at getting the scholarship.

The CV scholarship is a long shot for everyone. Less than 1% of applicants are offered the free tuition merit scholarship. That said, there is probably no place where your essays and references matter more as I am certain that the committee is looking for academic fire and personal potential contributions to the community of scholars on campus. I admire you for applying and for taking out the time it takes to throw your hat in the ring. That is in itself a very important skill. You have a fine academic record but Vanderbilt is a reach college for most people who have good records. When eldest son applied and was admitted, Vandy was his “reach” college and there were only 11 thousand applicants. I believe there were more than 28 thousand applicants last round. For several years now, fully qualified applicants are waitlisted and denied. Be prepared for all things and spread the love in your applications. Youngest son received a Chancellor’s five years ago, and his ACT of 34 was top quartile back then but no longer. I don’t think it was his test score that they liked. Probably the letters of reference and essays were the key. The applicant pool is only stronger now. Even so, my advice to you and to all applicants is to “Be Fierce.” Dig deep and go after things you want. You can do the work.

Faline, do you know why the CV scholarship deadline was moved back twice? First it was moved back to 12/22, and now it is extended until 1/6/15. I have my application essay sent in, but I was just wondering. Also, will this delay the decision release day in in mid-March?

Good luck collegegirl007. Hopefully we’ll both get the CV scholarship…

No idea why they moved the date. It is common to have some extensions offered in January if there is snow or ice that interferes with everyone’s lives or just interferes with the lives of applicants in one region of the USA. There is no impact on scholarship release dates. CV Scholars will get invites before the class as a whole receives their RD decisions. These things come in waves nation wide and Vandy will stick with the schedule. It is a blessing to have the extension for most people. There are always a few CV Scholars with multiple invitations from a few colleges early, but it is also fair to say that the difference in talent or promise between merit scholars and everyone else that is admitted RD and ED… is more negligible than ever in 2014. The entire admit class is an honors class who will choose Vandy for a wide range of personal factor reasons over other good offers. If you can get into Vanderbilt, you can be very successful at your match college and get into a strong graduate college, so keep your eyes on your long term goals at all times, and have confidence. good luck, everyone.
