Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship

I have just finished my vandy app, and am about to apply for the cornelius vanderbilt scholarship. Out of curiosity, how many people receive this scholarship (is it just one, or more) and what percent of vandy applicants apply for it?

Not sure what this year’s numbers are, but should be similar to this

Hey everyone! I submitted my CV app about a few weeks ago. I was looking through all my Vandy emails and I was wondering: will interviewing help your application stand out? I’m not a great interviewer, so if a less-than-spectacular one would hurt an application significantly, then I wouldn’t. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated: thanks so much!

i don’t think they interview for the CV…

The normal interviews really don’t do anything; they’re more like an info session to answer any questions that applicants have. It might demonstrate more interest in the school I suppose, but plenty of people get in without interviewing. However, even if you don’t feel like an interview is your strong suit, it’s probably not going to be a high pressure interview - most of them are done in coffee shops and restaurants so they can’t really be too tough/rigorous. These interviews won’t be relevant for scholarships.

There are some large scholarships that aren’t under the umbrella of the main three (CV/chancellor’s/ingram) where applicants under consideration travel to campus for interviews. For those the interview is much more high-pressure and important, but they’re not too common.

@fdgjfg , do you know if those scholarships that aren’t under the signature scholarship umbrella have names or are they just large merit awards? or is it like a stamps foundation scholarship? thanks

I submitted my normal application last night, but I was planning on submitting for scholarships as well. The deadline for this is december 1st, but I forgot that it takes a while for the myVU thing to be emailed. However, I need the myVU thing to submit for scholarships. Any ideas how long it will take or if I’ll be able to still apply for scholarships?

I would give them a call @whyamilikethis . I am thinking 2 days for the portal

Definitely call. They will be very busy right now but this is a legit question and you will feel a lot better knowing the answer. If you get sent to voicemail, send a brief email inquiry.

They have names; most of them the family name of a large donor that sponsors it (kind of like the Ingram scholarship).

Anyone have an idea when CV notifs might come out? March something, maybe?

Based on threads from last year, it could be as early as the 6th.

@prodesse Of March? Or of February?

@WiscoRunner March.

last year it was on March 8th.

Does anyone know the typical threshold for what the scores are of students who would get the CVS? Like 34+ ACT and 1500+ SAT. This is my guess.

I think it’s a magic combination of around those stats plus killer EC’s. From what I’ve seen, scores matter more for the Vanderbilt scholarships than other schools- but having the numbers is still definitely not a guarantee I think

@winky1 - Probably 35 or 36 ACT. Vandy is stats heavy. My son’s stats are 35 ACT and 4.0 GPA.

ok, thanks @skipper99 and @srk2017 . I don’t want to get my hopes up for my D. This is hard to get even with those scores!

From what I’ve noticed, most merit scholarships focus more on the essays and recommendations than the scores. If you’re statistically good enough to apply to Vanderbilt, you’re statistically good enough to get a scholarship–it really depends on the rest of your application
