Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship

I just applied to Vanderbilt for regular decision(due January 1) and while looking on their website, under the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship section, this was directly stated, “The Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship application is required; you must apply to be considered.” Does this mean that I must apply for the scholarship to get accepted into Vanderbilt University? The deadline for the scholarship is tomorrow, and I am worried that I have wasted my time and money for nothing. I may be in denial as I wait for the login information for the MyAppVU, but if it is required would someone mind giving me a heads up as to what I need to prepare? Thanks!

Sincerely,

Stressed out high school student

No, you do not need to apply for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship in order to be accepted.

Thank you so much! I still plan on applying for it if I can so wish me luck, but that is a major relief. I hope you have a great 2018 and GL on your journey

Some scholarships at some schools are automatically given; you must apply for this one.

Thanks dude! I knew that some schools like UTD do scholarships for you but I didn’t know the extent to which this particular scholarship affected my ability to get accepted. Congrats on getting to Super Moderator level, keep up the great work!

Applying for the Cornelius Vanderbilt (or any other scholarship requiring an application) provides another opportunity for you to showcase your writing and allow adcoms to see another side of you. Also, it certainly shows a great deal of “demonstrated interest.” Unlike many of these types of scholarships, there are no interviews required or “scholarship weekends” required.

Everything coming out around now i think?

Seems like it, I just got my email finally saying I didn’t get it.

Also just got my email saying I didn’t get it. Congratulations to those who did!

Congrats to all who got it!

Haven’t received any response. Perhaps means didn’t get it.
