Accepted to Upenn, but rejected from Cornell?

GG Cornell.

Were most people here first year transfers or second year?

Does it matter?

i will be a sophomore at cornell next fall

schneider, congrats! haha now i have to make the same choice.

Thanks twald. When I saw the acceptance online I flipped and called my parents - who are still in shock. And we got a second shock yesterday when my acceptance from Wheaton came.

Okay - so who is now in the "I need to choose" boat?

I have a general question: I am wondering if its smart to take out 100,000 $ in loans just to finance Cornell? My parents will help pay a bit but they definently cannot pay all of it. Do people think Cornell is worth it ?

yes. it's worth it. btw, if you got into cornell, how would being admitted to wheaton be such a shocker?

yes. it's worth it

Ya think? I would argue that it's dependent on your future profession and expected salary.

well, he asked if people think it's worth it. i'm a person, and i think it is. i do agree with what you have to say though. no two people are alike.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. I'm just saying I'd be wary of taking out 100k in loans for undergrad, regardless of the school, if I weren't going into a very lucrative profession.

i understand...i mean, what am i going to be doing with religious studies anyways?! lol but i think its worth it if you make it worthwhile!! :) lol

You never know religious studies can take you pretty much anywhere if you go to grad/prof school ;)

I'm a Philosophy major that'll come out at least 40k in debt, but I'm planning on law so not as big of a worry.

haha true true the problem is that i have no idea what i want to do!! lol and i may have around the 6 digits in debt! :o

Quote:yes. it's worth it. btw, if you got into cornell, how would being admitted to wheaton be such a shocker?

Getting into Wheaton wasn't a shocker for me - but my parents have been after me to go there instead. They wanted me to go there back in junior year of high school (which is a few years ago) It was my very basic safety school.

However, thanks for the hints on debt. I hopefully will have a good career. Want to do International Law....

Hopefully that will take care of the debt if I choose to go to Cornell.

Well it seems like we have a group of transfers now with acceptances. Do any of you know where you might want to live? Anyone doing transfer house?

i heard transfer students arent guaranteed housing in cornell...
is this true?
im my acceptance letter it says to look for housing outside cornell

oh really?? i went to the housing office when i was visiting campus and they told me that 80% of transfers will be living in the hasbrock appartments on north campus by the golf course. this kinda sucks cus its really really far away! anyways, they told me that the other 20% will be randomly selected and placed in West, which would be awesome. sexy123, what school were you admitted to and when did you get your decision? have you all done the housing application yet??

i called and they said i was accepted... lol human ecology
didnt get anything yet... no papers, housing info, no financial aid, nothing...
so its better to try and get west? whats so good about west?
so 100% of transfers will get dorms?

so is it really worth transfering now haha... if you are gonna be in a far dorm and take classes that you dont want to.. since you will making your schedule really late when classes have already been taken by other students

sexy, sometimes i dont even know why you applied to cornell. Why didnt you research this yourself BEFORE you applied? You ask too many questions!

Congrats sexy ! One more in...

I think sexy has really valid questions. Having crappy classes and housing can really take away from the experience.

um...thats not the only "valid" question she has asked...lol
