Cornell 2015 ED Hopefuls

I just got contacted by an alumni who lives like within two minutes of me and I am so nervous! Of course I’ll say yes to the interview but I am still so scared! I know its informal and it’s not supposed to affect admissions decisions but still! What do i say what do i do what do i bring what do i everything???!!?? Why do i have a bad feeling that something is going to go terribly terribly wrong :(

You don’t have to bring anything, well I didn’t anyways. Just be calm, and be yourself. If you have such a pessimistic view on it, then something will definitely go wrong. Just relax!

I just don’t know what to expect! I feel like I have to have super stellar questions and just be perfect!

I’ll give you a brief rundown of my meeting. I went to the meeting place, shook hands with alum, introduced myself, and sat down. She then asked why I chose Cornell, and in extension, why ILR. I explained that. And she then asked what some of my extracurricular activities were. And then after she asked if I heard about any rumors/myths and whatnot. I then asked the infamous suicide question. So we had a little discussion on that. And then she asked if I had any more questions. And I asked about college life, study abroad, internships, etc. And we talked some more. It was a good 45 minutes. Very relaxed and casual environment. Nothing to it. Just stay calm, relaxed, and happy! Hope I helped?

superexcited - that is an excellent description of how the information meeting would usually go. glad your session went well and good luck to you!

Thank you memphismom!

Ah, thanks Yellowsnowman for that information.

I have another question guys.
When I log into my CommonApp account and click on my Cornell tab, it says that the supplement hasn’t been downloaded yet. Does anyone else have this problem? My application was downloaded fine though.

Jolteon it depends when yous ubmitted the supplement? It could probably take weeks before the staff processes it :P

My son was contacted for an interview with an alumni.

I submitted the supplement on 11/01/10 at like 11:50 P.M.
Yes, I know that’s a bit late, but the deadline was technically 11/01, so yeah.

I was also contacted for an interview with an alumni. I think it’s just an informal Q & A session where you just ask questions and stuff.

Hi! I just got an email from Cornell saying something’s missing from my application and I checked and the only thing not received is my November SAT II score. The email says to send everything in ten days, but the score won’t be available until the 23rd. In this case I don’t really need to do anything or worry about it right? cuz there’s nothing i can do right now to speed up the delivery and they’ll automatically get it after the 23rd? but do you guys think they’ll have made their decision already by the 23rd?.. (hope not) thanks!

they say if you are goint to apply ED plan on an OCT SAT not nov.

^ Cornell is accepting November Scores as well as long as they arrive in time.

Some other universities do not accept November Score but Cornell does.

Hi this is takes directly from the admissions page on the cornell site
“Will Cornell Consider Your Scores if the Test Is Taken after the ED Deadline? If you are applying under the Early Decision plan, the October test date is the latest recommended test date from which we will accept test scores. Applicants are welcome to submit test scores from the November test date, but we cannot guarantee that we will receive the scores before making a decision.”
So you are correct however they may have already made the decision. I hope it works out for you. Good luck!

Okay I don’t mean to keep discussing about this but my alumni interviewer who has experience for a few years said that the November Scores never fail to arrive on time. If it does this year, then thousands other will be judged equally as well.

About the decision, yes I admit that decisions may have been made by the time the scores arrived but my alumni interviewer’s reports deadline is on the 30th of November.

I don’t know how far true is his statements but he said that they are reading approximately 1200 applicants per day and looking at the number of ED applicants, they can be reading them all in 3 days, if they want to. But obviously, to make more informed decisions, it requires more than 3 days.

In the above statements you pasted, they might be referring to people who did not assign Cornell as the recipient in their free report. If you think no one is that dumb to do so, Cornell wants to fully read all the applicants equally and wish not that such event happens

Cheers

It seems likely that they will not wait until nov 30 to make decisions. I also believe that one SAT test especially a subjuct test will not be that important to the final decision with all the other fine work completed to this point. They will be received late as the soonest they will get them is NOV 24 (however that is the day before the Thanksgiging break) so they may not actually look at it until Nov 29th (unless they work through the holiday) When you add in that the rumored notification day is the following Thursday it really does not leave much time. They may just put the apps that are pending a score into a pile for late review. That way they give it a second look. The quote was taken directly from the admissions page. I have not had an interview so perhaps you have more current data. There really is little that can be done as the ED dates are past anyway. If anyone is reading this for RD I would take the Dec SAT to be sure results are there in time.

I recall reading on the Cornell website that if the SAT II is the ONLY document missing from an application, it WILL be read.

I also read that although I can’t seem to find it now.

@ceresma

Tadaaaa!!!:

“Although most of our undergraduate colleges and schools require two subject tests, if those scores are the only required application item you are missing, your application will be reviewed by the selection committee.”
