Cornell 2015 ED Hopefuls

accepted AAP :)

Congratulations! which school in AAP?

Accepted Human Ecology :D

accepted CALS! cant wait to see yall there!

Accepted Bio Engineering

Hi. I’m an international student and I got accepted into College of Engineering. However, I fount out today that Cornell wouldn’t be able to offer me any financial aid. Is any international student in the same situation?

And does anyone have an idea how I could exactly apply for a generous amount of loan in Canada considering that I really wanna pursue my undergraduate in Cornell?

Thanks a lot!

Lavander,
I am in the same situation - Canadian applicant, got into College of Arts and Sciences, and found out today that I’m getting no aid. It doesn’t seem like there’s much room for negotiation, and I don’t think we would be able to apply after first year either. I read someplace (could be wrong) that very few (~30-40) internationals get aid per entering class, which could be partial or full. I think it also worked to our disadvantage that this year the funding that was previously given to Canadians and Mexicans has been opened to all internationals (I’m biased though).
I was extremely disappointed when I found out, cause it looks like I can’t go now. I mean, how often does an opportunity like this come up? sigh

@lavander0311 hb9930: guys, i’m really sorry to hear that. I’m also an international student accepted ED, so I’m waiting for the financial aid package. How did u guys hear about your Financial Aid status? Is it included in the formal offer letter or separate letter or e-mail?

If I’m not wrong, canadian students can apply for some student loan through some organisations (though i doubt they will give more than 50% of the cost)… try searching! and all the best!

Lockheed,
I received an email from the undergrad admissions guy yesterday (friday). It went something along the lines of “there’s very limited funding for international students; only a few are given aid, based on criteria such as geographic diversity, potential to contribute, and some other stuff. We’re sorry, but we can’t provide you with the financial aid you requested. You now have the option of breaking the ED contract, get back to us by Jan 14th”.
I just had a meeting with somebody at the bank. Looks like something can be worked out, but it involves massive amounts of debt. =( I don’t know if I want to do that to my parents.
Also, what do you mean by loans for Canadians, which loans, and are they given to Canadians studying in the US? Whereabouts can I find such loans? I’m just grasping at any tiny bit of hope.

Hey angelin, me too!!! What are you planning on majoring in?
We should trade numbers or something cause we might be classmates or roomies someday! lol ;)

Hi generalpaton  I want to major in Human, Biology, Health & Society, and basically have a pre-med kind of courseload. What about you?
So exciting!

was anyone rejected from CALS? i know people were deferred, but was anyone actually REJECTED? or was everyone who wasnt accepted automatically deferred?

^lavander0311 and hb9930
Guys I m also an inter national student. could you guys tell me how much was your parents income bracket?

Hi. I also met with the bank, but it seems like their loan is very limited as well. I will try to talk to my counselor about federal and provincial government loan. (We only have a month left to reserve a spot though!)

My parents’ income (combined) would be around 40K-50K?

It seems very ambitious of me to apply for such a huge amount of loan, but I know someone who receives a huge loan every year (she goes to McGill). I’m just unsure if it’d be the same for Canadians who want to study abroad.

Education is a great investment, so I wanna try to accumulate as much aid before breaking the contract.

Best luck to us!

I have to resend some information about my mom’s income before I get my financial aid packet from them. My parents’ combined income is currently ~20k and my mom is unemployed at the moment. I NEED a good financial aid package to be able to go. Has anybody gotten their financial aid packet amount yet?

@aeb - I was deferred, but there WERE several rejections on this board for CALS. The only school that doesn’t reject ED applicants is ILR.

yellowsnoman I ma in the same problem…I thought being accepetd was all I needed rigth now. But I guess I was wrong. Besides I am from South Asia so I don’t think I can take taht much loan from the bank. And I do not want to be a burden for my parents either.

^hey adhikari, my case is the same as yours. Do you think we can appeal, so that they may even give us an aid offer? This is just so terrible.
Btw, I am from Bangladesh. Are you form India?

hey Wannabeprince I am from Nepal. I hope they will consider our situtaion. It’s a horrible feeling that money stops a person from achieving one’s dream. But I feel that cornell will help us, and a senior told me that they’ll consider. So fingers cossed…
BTW where were you accpted. I got in COE…

I’m from Florida in the US though so hopefully getting a good financial aid package won’t be too much of an issue. I hope the best for you guys!
