dewdrop, it is confirmed. no more in person aap interviews

ED at CAS. 2150 SAT ( 800 math/ 620 CR :frowning: / 730 Writing) I dont know if Cornell cares writing section. Please give me correct answer if you know exact because there are different answers. I am from Vietnam. Are Vietnamese students considered to be URM? ( One cornellian said to me that Cornell graduate schools have 50 people so Vietnamese students are not considered to be URM.
Is 620 too bad ( <= 650) if I apply for Financial aid? My family cant afford much
I have a small question, If I apply from VN and my friends ( vietnamese too apply from Singapore ( Southeast asia too), are we placed in the same pool?

kidloveit, Vietnamese are considered Asian, and thus, not a URM.

ED at Cals.

chances? im hopeful

yes very good chances i probably get in

jaroba, LOL, what do you mean?

@ansar: So Asians are a lot at Cornell so I have less chance?

Should I let the minority be unknown to admission staff and only report that I am from Vietnam ( who knows exactly my minority)? I think Vietnamese is an interesting background

my mistake i replied to the wrong thread on this one!!

You should raise your SAT score higher. Your AP score is not high. Are you NY residents ?

yes my scores are low but i hear CALS wants students who “fit” and my extra curricular activities truly do fit in with the major i will pick

and i take a lot of aps. or at least i think 6 is a lot and i took two college courses at community college

This year the acceptance rate of CAS is so low ( just higher than AAP). I dont know if I stand a chance

I’m applying RD to Cornell. I’m an international applicant (asian) with OK academics and almost non existent EC’s or awards. :frowning: . I don’t expect to get in but hey, who knows?

Also, how many of you are planning to use the alternate college choice option?

I plan to study either business or economics in college, so I have equal interests in both AEM (CALS) and Econ (CAS)

I’m trying to decide which one to do primary
(obviously, AEM is more selective, but it also sounds more attractive)

anyway, anyone else?

what major Jaroba

Impetuous, where are you from? I am Asian too :D. What is your SAT score and some stats until now? Do you apply for Financial aid because I think AEM doesn’t give fin aid to international students because AEM is from a contract college-CALS
kidloveit, You are from VN right? So do I. I have the same SAT score as you. Hope we will get in

what are the most competitive and least competitive majors at CALS?

@Jaroba
I know that AEM is probably the most competitive major in CALS. Also, it is more competitive than getting into CAS.

@THAIDUYBINH
I’m guessing you are from Thailand? I’m from Korea (probably the most competitive pool out of all countreis, along with China). I AM applying for financial aid. I didn’t know that AEM as a major specifically doesn’t offer financial aid to internationals. Do you have a link to a page on the website or something?

As I said, I guess I have average academics for any cornell applicant (possibly below average for internationals applying to AEM). I have 2200+ SAT and okay GPA. (I don’t really know exactly what it is. Certainly above average) But I really don’t have any EC’s or awards so I don’t expect to have a good chance at Cornell.

If anyone has admission statistics specific to the AEM major, it would be really helpful.

(as in acceptance rates, average SAT scores, etc)

impetuous: I am from Vietnam and I also apply for Financial Aid ( CAS econ). I am very worried because Cornell uses academic ( SAT, GPA, awards…) as a main factor for financial aid. My SAT score is 2150( not very likely to get financial aid). I will take again in November. Hope to get 2200+ because I have few awards.
I think CALS provides little financial aid ( just my inference) because it is a contract college so it serves NY residents. But I once read on a Korean admission blog :stuck_out_tongue: that CALS is often ignored and turned down by Koreans because of the word “Agriculture” so applying for CALS may help you impetuous :D. But you should ask Fin Aid office about fin aid at CALS compared to CAS. If you have an answer, please PM me. I contacted the office several times but receive only general answer so you should ask with more details

Btw, the admission rate of AEM is very low: 14.5% but CALS looks fit to the school so SAT should be at least matched to the score range of Cornell. If you are from Korean, SAT score should be higher. I was once crazy about AEM but after stalking facebook lol, I realized that most AEM students are NY residents. If there are any international students at AEM, he/she may get no aid , I think so

thanks, i think i will apply ed to cals
