Where did you get the 14.5% acceptance rate? I’m searching desperately for some admission statistics for AEM.

Where did you get the 14.5% acceptance rate? I’m searching desperately for some admission statistics for AEM.

This year the AEM name is changed into Dyson school of AEM lol. So here it is.
[The Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management](http://dyson.cornell.edu/)
And here the admission stats SAT/ACT:
<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?;

Cornell admission revolves around the 18%-20% figure

i’m still confused as to whether CAS is tougher or COE is tougher for acceptance!

Class 2014, CAS is tougher as I know

“Where did you get the 14.5% acceptance rate? I’m searching desperately for some admission statistics for AEM.”

…no admit stats are available by major that I know of. Class of 2014 by college are posted: For males accptence rate for CALS is 22% CAS is 16%, COE is 17% …

csdad: here it is 14.5 % for AEM
[Charles H. Dyson School: Undergraduate Program](<a href=“Applied Economics and Management Degree Program | Cornell Dyson”>Applied Economics and Management Degree Program | Cornell Dyson)

so for males, CAS 16% and COE 17%. for females, i’m guessing COE would be much higher.

anyway, that means for males, either one would most likely be equally tough.

wat major though jaroba?

@csdad

It makes sense for AEM to have its own statistics, because unlike other majors in schools like CAS, applicants for AEM compete among themselves, and they are accepted to the major, not the school. (Applicants for CAS just get accepted to the school itself)

@TAHIDUYBINH

thanks for the links! So the average scores are SAT 1402 and ACT 30 for AEM.
The rate is 14.5% indeed… I guess not too much differnet from CAS but still more competitive.

science of environmental systems

is Cornell engineering the easiest to get into compared to other colleges at Cornell ?

what do your EC’s and stats look like for that major jaroba ? Cuz im applying to CALS too

CAS is so so competitive last year. I am worried. I really want to take risk applying AEM but I need Financial Aidso still stick to CAS

@THAIDUYBINH

Why don’t you use the alternate college option like Im thinking of doing?

That way you can apply to both AEM and CAS Econ. If you are not good enough for AEM but still competitive for CAS, they will still consider you for CAS

Because I just want to concentrate on one college. Someone told me that ( and even on CC) applying to only one college may show “the fit” and level of interest in the particular college. Moreover, if you are rejected from the primary, the chance you are accepted to the alternative is logically very very small, particularly AEM and CAS econ are equally competitive :). I dont want to waste my time writing a supp essay for nothing you know. It takes time and ruins my chance although I love both :)

impetuous: Do you apply for other top schools/Ivies? :)

I believe that I’ve read on here in the past that only 2% are admitted to their alternate?

@THAIDUYBINH

Actually, for CAS, you are applying to the school itself, so the major you choose will not affect your chances. I thought there wasn’t that big of a problem in terms of fit because, well both majors look into economics, only one on the more practical side.

I know the chances that my application will be reviewed by the alternate college are small, but it is still better than 0%, I guess. I’m still debating whether to use the option or not. If I don’t have enough time to write the supp essay, I’ll most likely just apply to AEM. (14.5% actually doesn’t look that bad… CAS is 16% so it’s only a 1.5% difference.)

I am indeed looking to apply for other top schools, mainly because I’m looking for schools that have need blind admission for internationals. I’m actually applying to Yale early. I don’t expect to get in, but I just want to see if I’m good enough to be deferred by one of the best colleges in the world.

Also, I’m mostly applying to reaches in the States because if I don’t get into any college that I REALLY want to go to, I’ll attend a college in Korea anyway.

CAS is tougher than COE in terms of acceptance rate. but i also heard that COE applicants are self-selective… or something. which makes them both equally tough?
