cornell university college of engineering supplementary essay has 950 words. Is that okay ? How many words on average should be in the essay :slight_smile: ?

If you are referring to the “college interest essays” part of the Cornell’s supplement as seen on common application, that is way too long. The maximum limit is 500 words

I added Cornell to my college list just to quote the instruction part for the supplement essay.

Please respond to the essay question below (maximum of 500 words) that corresponds to the undergraduate college(s) to which you are applying. If you are utilizing the primary / alternate admission option, you must complete an essay for both colleges; please complete the essays that correspond to your primary and alternate choice.

I suggest you cut out about half of your essay?

^ OMG i totally didn’t see that. Thank you so much! :)

About common app essay and supp essay, I have a small question.
The limit for both essays is 500 words ?

You only do one supplementary essay for cornell. you do the other one for a diff college only if you want to keep and alternate option of another field/major in cornell

@THAI

as I said, the supp essay’s limit is 500 words

as for the common app essay, there is only a minimum (250 words) but you really shouldn’t make it that long. I think an ideal common app essay is between 350~750 words
I personally will keep it between 500 and 600

^^ Yea my common app essay is currently 950 words. I will try to chop it down to 700-750 ish :)

Thats really good jaroba, good luck to you! You seem passionate about your major which is good. I’m not so like that for what im aiming for lol

finally cutdown my Cornell supplementary essay for college of engineering from 983 words to 583 words. Just gotta decrease it to 500 or less :)
