I just cut down my essay to 700 words. the first time I tried writing it, I was tryig to be creative and ended up writing 800 words about dominoes. haha yea i know, fail . So I restarted and I think the second one is a lot better, and more relevant.

How do you even relate dominoes and engineering ? thats if your applying to cornell engineering :stuck_out_tongue: lol. you must be a creative thinker to even relate the two.

anywho, wow ! your all AP!

ok so i am the same as you but all non ap! :frowning: i know sad. but i am taking my act this sept 11. Please guide me all my act practice test i have been getting 30. How can i improve that and do you think its a correct estimate if i am using mcgraw hill 10 act practice tests?

Lol idk, but no it wasnt related to engineering. I’m gonna be a double major (communications and anthropology hopefully). Although I’m not sure how it relates to communications either haha.

And yeah, a lot of APs but I have to improve my rank. I’m solid in my ECs and essay I hope.

Plus, I would recomend “The-Real-ACT-Prep-Guide”. I’m not retaking the ACT ( I’m gonna concentrate on the SAT) but my friends are and they said this book was really helpful.

^^ Thanks I already did that book :). But even a 30 isn’t good enough for me which is what I am stuck at. I am Canadian, meaning as an international student, i should or better said, I must have 33+ to be even considered against the intense competition I will face.

Oh ok. What are your scores for each section right now?

English- 30
Math - 34
Reading - 27
Science - 28

Composite of : 29.75 rounded to 30

so iwantyale or anyone,
do you think i have a good chance at cals ed?

Americanschools, Well those are pretty solid numbers what specificall are you having trouble with in each section? For reading, are you having trouble with the time youre given to reaf and comprehend eaach passage? And for science is it somehwat dificult to analyze all the graphs and then answer the subsequent questions. You can PM me if you want some more advice but im not sure how much I could help haha.

Jaroba, your stats are similar to mine. You have solid ECs and those are gonna help. Your essay needs to be really good and you should prob try to bring up your SAT scores to around 2100+. Not trying to sound superior or anything haha, that’s just the gist of all the avice I’ve gotten and if your like me, then Cornell is a reach.

i know my sats are lowish. does cals take people with lower sats ever?

I hope so, but I was just looking at class of 2014s thread for ED and someone with a 2350 SAT and 3.7 uw GPA got denied :frowning: while someone with a 2100 and 3.7 uw got accepted. This just makes me nervous. Plus, I guess it depends on your major, essay and any hooks.

true i hope i can get in

hopefully ED (maybe RD) to COE or CALS.
prayyyyyying!

COE ED for me :slight_smile: and i am canadian, so its additionally harder. :(

@americanschools

being canadian won’t decrease your chances by much. In fact, a lot of top schools consider canadian students in the same pool as domestic applicants. Not sure about Cornell tho. There shouldn’t be much difference.

It’s really the other international students (like me, Korean) whose chances are significantly decreased.

@impetuous

See the thing is, it doesn’t matter if our files are in the international or domestic pool in the end they pick 90 % Americans and 10 % internationals <– around there.

I don’t really understand what you are trying to say…

Well they do pick 90% domestic students (in which, often, canadians are included) adn 10% international students.

How does that not matter? the international pool is way more competitive

Alright, so if you visit the Cornell website, their description for international student is anyone not holding the US residency or green card. That means anyone falling into that category is international. Since you and I both don’t fall in that category, we are in the same pool for admission applications. Therefore only 10% of us will be selected out of all those people applying that fit the definition of an international student.

americanschools: you are wrong here and impetuous, you are right.
If Cornell accepts top students with high SAT, tons of awards and activities and let all international students in the same pool, Korea, China will defeat all Asian students. LOL. In fact, Cornell will divide students into different pools to consider fairly between students from a small one.

^^ so tell em as a canadian how am i affected and how am i judged for admissions ? clearly MIT and cornell dont do the same way of admissions coz what I described is done by MIT exactly.

Anybody else applying ED to CALS? after editing my essay it’s only 400 words and only aboout 115 words are dedicated to talking about cornell. is that ok?
