Hello,

I'm a senior in HS and I'm planning on applying to Cornell College of Human Ecology. Just a few questions:

1) When do you choose a major in Cornell?
2) Does it matter which major you choose when you apply to Cornell? It is okay to just put "undecided within the Cornell College of Human Ecology" option? Will it have a negative impact on my application?

Thanks in advance!

1) When do you choose a major in Cornell?

Some colleges require you to list your major during application. Other colleges allow you to apply undecided. Every student has to declare a major by the end of sophomore year, however.

2) Does it matter which major you choose when you apply to Cornell? It is okay to just put “undecided within the Cornell College of Human Ecology” option? Will it have a negative impact on my application?

It does to the extent that you want to match your interests to a specific college or even major (depending on what it is). That is done through the two essays required for admission, as well as high school academics, and possibly EC’s. I’m not sure if Human Ecology forces its applicants to pick a major, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it does.

1) Human Ecology always requires its students to have a major.
2) I would pick a major and make your essay parallel your choice in major. You can always switch majors, but I would pick one … for some reason, I feel like since HumEc is more specialized than most of the other colleges, that it would not be good to go undeclared.
