for all the universities I intend to put down my major as Bus. Economics/Finance

UC Irvine
UC Davis
UCSD
UCLA
UC Berk
Johns Hopkins Econ
USC Marshall
Cornell AEM ED
University of Chicago Economics EA
Carnegie Mellon Economics

I plan on applying to Cornell's AEM program Early Decision and University of Chicago's Economics program Early action ( I checked and made sure this was allowed). I am most concerned with my chances ED and EA at Cornell and Chicago respectively but I would appreciate your opinions regarding my chances at all the other schools as well.

hey guys! I just am looking for a couple of opinions regarding my chances if you could help out at all I’d really appreciate it! thanks in advance

I definitely see where you guys are coming from…junior was a pretty darn rough year academically. I did kind of hope my 2 top ten finishes in the nation for business management would hold some remote weight.
Just a bit more information about my junior year

2 of these Bs were in Spanish 4H (I was hoping the fact that they were not in a math/science/lit/Cornell “Major related” class will help a bit)

1 B my junior year was also caused my a grading policy technicality which essentially tied me getting an A to a group project…filled with less than competent group members -
I am getting a teacher rec. from this teacher (who really likes me) and she addresses the B and in her letter which I have read she said that I was the top student in that class both semesters and the B I received first semester was awarded on technicality - something she attempting to chance in school policy

Out side of these 3 Bs I also received a B in APUSH first semester and a B in AP bio first semester
I also was taking a community college course, playing a varsity sport, i volunteered 180 hours at a hospital, placed nationally for fbla and was selected for a UCSD summer program the same year I was taking 3 AP classes and 3 honors courses

Just to clarify - not excusing my self for the dip in my gpa - just wanting to put it out there that my Bs were not due to laziness or me not trying as hard as time progressed in middle school. Also, will the fact I am in the top 10% (I recently asked my GC and it turns out my school only does reports students in groups of 10% out of which I am in the highest) be completely ignored during all this?

I was also wondering exactly how much of a shot I would have at Cornell’s ED. I understand that its ridiculously competitive (especially the AEM major) and I just wanted to get a feel for my chances ( badd 50/50 very high reach etc.)
Also, I am applying for UChicago’s EA program and I know that while they seriously look at GPAs, they also weight ECs and Essays very heavily. With a strong UChicago-style essay, and my existing extracurriculars do you think I have a shot there?

UC Irvine IN
UC Davis IN
UCSD IN
UCLA IN
UC Berk REJECTED
Johns Hopkins Econ IN
USC Marshall IN
Cornell AEM ED REJECTED
University of Chicago Economics EA (If your essays are as Chicagoesque as you say there are…IN)
Carnegie Mellon Economics - Dont know enough about this one to chance

As for the grades my thinking is that if your mid year report grades are good and you have strong first semester senior year grades (ALL As) then you should have a solid shot at all your schools. I feel that the UCs will be harder for you due to your numerics…Cornell …with ED it might be a different story…and I am not sure how common national fbla awards are… What I do know is that having extracurriculars tailored towards your major helps A LOT and you seem to have those…

I wouldn’t listen to supakew at all… Regardless of your GPA or your 5 Bs, you’re still in the top 10% which essentially negates it. I think you have a good chance. (Cornell)

If Cornell is where you want to be, then I think you have a very good chance of getting into AEM by applying ED. If you should get WL, I wouldn’t surprised if you would get guaranteed transfer. I assume you are a CA resident, it may give you a boost at a NE school, especially Cornell’s land grant schools (if you are a full pay).

CMU has a pretty good UG business school, you may want to also consider. If you are thinking about going into IB, I would think hard about going to Chicago.
