Cornell AEM or Georgetown McDonough?

I was recently accepted as a junior transfer to Cornell's Applied Economics and Management major, and to the undergraduate business school at Georgetown.

My goal is to either enter the world of investment banking or to attend a top 10 law school and specialize in corporate law.

In terms of academics, social life, financial aid, internship opportunities, prestige, and job placement, how would you rank the 2?

bump…?

Depends, if you like big diverse school (~14k students)and in the middle of no where then cornell. If you like a smaller (~7k) semi-diverse school, then georgetown. I think Cornell AEM is more well known.

I’ve read that Georgetown’s law school is ranked higher than Cornell’s law school, but Cornell might have an advantage in placing students on Wall Street.

bump…???

Does anyone know how generous these schools are with financial aid? Specifically for someone from a an upper-middle class family?

…?

Georgetown is not as good at recruiting compared to other top undergrad b-schools. However, they seem to do pretty well for recruitment in the financial sector. Going to Cornell, you also get the ivy league degree, although if you are getting a business degree, going to an ivy does not matter as much as the business school you go to.

In terms of size, social life, etc. You really have to be the one to choose that aspect of the college. I do not know your reasons for transfering, but I imagine they may play a part in it and so really you may just have to analyze what you like and dislike about your current school, and if you want a similiar or different social scene.

I am also trying to transfer to a undergrad business school, including Georgetown. When did you get your acceptance? I am assuming because Georgetown doesn’t have a portal, it came through the mail. I am getting soooo impatient.

I received my acceptance by mail early last week. Also, I’m transferring from a community college honors program, so what’s really most important for me is the quality of academics, reputation, job placement, and placement in law school. As far as social life and all that, it’s what you make of it, you can make friends as long as you take initiative.

Although, I hear the girls at Cornell arent all that good looking : /, so that’s something to consider lol.

If I met the Bio pre-req to apply to AEM, I’d go there instead of Georgetown mostly for the better program, recruiting, and ivy degree since I want to go to law school someday. They are both great schools though.

Another idea for you to consider is that Georgetown being in a large city you will have access to more companies and firms, which could mean more possible options for jobs and internships during the year, where the main thing in Ithaca is the university.

There are always those rumors about uglier guys or girls. I currently attend an all girls school, so my only requirement is that its a coed school, even if its full of ugly guys. lol
