Cornell AEM Transfer 2014

Hi everyone this is my first post on CC

I'm hoping someone could chance me or give me some insight on transferring to Cornell AEM from a community college.

Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.9 ( I should keep this up by the time I apply in Oct.)
- Have all required courses
SAT: 2060 (780 CR 580 M 700 WR) - I'm planning on retaking to get math up
ACT:30
HS GPA: Bad, probably around 3.0, I changed schools quite a bit so my transcripts are a mess

Member of phi theta kappa honor society

in honors program at my comm. college

Spent almost 2 years running a small student led nonprofit group that organizes community service projects for kids on juvenile probation, worked on keeping a public school sponsored agricultural studies program afloat despite budget cuts and also raised funds for habitat for humanity build projects

Work as a cashier part time (20 hrs a week)

With strong essays/rec letters would I be considered a competitive applicant?

I'm also looking to transfer to UVA McIntire and maybe Amherst.

Thanks

(My school doesn't have an atriculation agreement with Cornell)

I’m also applying to AEM for transfer. Did you take all the requirements?

I’m in AEM. You’re a hit or miss tbh. I’d keep the cashier bit off. Take all the requirements to maximize your chances. UVA so much easier to get into. Good luck.

Hey Unibames. Can you also chance me please?

I’m applying to CALS AEM

An excellent essay and recommendation

LOL pot calling the kettle black? hotel actually has the worst statistics by far, and that includes SAT scores.

However, if you included all the terrible scores of the transfers to the state schools, it would be a close race.

Transfer scores aren’t incorporated into the data that the rankings use, so I would argue that Hotel is actually the one pulling the school’s ranking down the most.

To JK1018:

Sure man. However, don’t take 18 credits next semester, Cornell will only take 60. I had two withdrawals too, I explained it, don’t care to explain what it pertained to though. Your GPA is stronger than mine. You have a good chance, just work hard on your essay. I visited Cornell twice before applying too. I think the demonstrated interest helped.

Hi Unibames. Thanks for the chance. I withdrew two course because of the surgery and I already wrote a essay about it.
All the 18 credits I’m curently taking is all required and recommendation courses, I want to take easy this semester but I have choice :frowning:
Can you also proofread my essay please? I will tell you my email address by email, so if you send me an email I will send you my essay.

Unibames - I thought work experience might make seem more well rounded, I’ve been working to pay for my education which I guess would tie into my essays, am I wrong? I’m trying to find some kind of finance internship (real estate/asset management/ pwm) over the summer to make myself more competitive. Also I was planning on applying as a sophomore transfer for spring 2014, how much will my HS grades factor into those decisions?

To JK1018 -

All the explicitly required courses + biology and stats… My school doesn’t offer public speaking

Jk1018: You can send me your email address and I’ll follow-up briefly. I currently petitioned to take 24 credits this semester and took a hell of a lot of extracurriculars, and varsity sport, so I’ll try to get to it for you. I like to give back to the community.

SkinsFan: Take it somewhere else then. Would it not feel better to present yourself as the strongest applicant possible? Don’t be easy on the adcoms. Half their applications to AEM they probably throw out quickly. This year we had a 9% admit rate. As they filter on through the applicants. What kind of students do you think would make the cut in the end? Something to think about.

@Zambl95, your College GPA is looking good, maintain it and improve it if you can. Your HS GPA will matter less and less the later on you are in your years in college. Definitely try to take all required and recommended courses. Your ECs look good. As for your essays, do your research on CALS and AEM, and write accordingly. CALS is very fit based. But remember, grades are most important, so maintain them well. Good luck!

@SMRSMR Thank you very much !! If I have any questions can I send you a message ?

Sure go ahead.

Hey guys,

does anyone know anybody who actually got into AEM as a spring transfer? I read that Cornell only offers spring admissions to very very qualified individuals.

"(Only in special circumstances will admission be offered to candidates transferring in the spring or in their junior year.) " this is directly from their website.
