Cornell AEM vs. Cornell

On another thread I read someone's comments that Cornell AEM was much harder to get into than Cornell ( the college), can someone please explain how the system at Cornell works, I thought AEM was just a major that one declares after being accepted into CALS, even on the website it just redirects you to the normal undergraduate admissions site. Thanks for any information.

There is no one Cornell “college;” rather, you apply to a specific one that fits your interests (Arts and Sciences is, if you will, the traditional liberal arts education). It IS true that AEM is harder to get into than CALS, just because of a lack of room in the program-it’s very small.

[Applied Economics and Management/Cornell](<a href=“Applied Economics and Management Degree Program | Cornell Dyson”>Applied Economics and Management Degree Program | Cornell Dyson)

AEM’s acceptance rate is around 11% year-to-year. You apply to Cornell, but when you fill out the Common-App it will ask you to select a major; to get into AEM you have to select Applied Economics and Management at that point.

like ds143 said, it’s small – but that’s what i like about AEM
