Cornell AEM vs. NYU Stern- most selective?

Since neither school is need blind to international students, if you need a large amount of FA, both schools are going to be very hard as far as admissions (in this case since NYU is well known as being stingy on aid by giving very little grant aid and heavy on loans, NYU will be the harder school to be admitted to as an international student).

Stern and Aem are raked side by side in almost every ranking I have seen so I don’t know where you get the idea that “Stern Is a much better according to every ranking”. Anyway both are great schools

If the issue is education versus rankings, which in many ways are ridiculous, then Stern gives you proximity and likely better access to the Business Comunity and in particular Financial Businesses. Over your years in school you can network and come out with a leg up in the job market.

well isn’t AEM the newer program.. in terms of selectivity, Cornell’s will probably be harder, but in terms of prestige or whatever you want to call it, probably NYU’s

Just to clarify, Cornell does not in any way favor NY State residents over others in granting admission to the three schools that are “contract” colleges (including CALS, where the AEM major is located).

The reason why a lot of NY State residents tend to apply to CALS (and the other contract colleges), resulting in a higher number of NY State residents attending CALS, is that NY State residents receive a tuition discount at CALS. Further, many very qualified NY State residents applying to a variety of universities to study business may choose Cornell over other programs because of the more reasonable tuition rates.

In addition, Cornell, in admitting students to CALS, including the AEM major, takes very seriously into account a wide variety of factors in addition to GPA and SAT scores, including demonstrated interest in a given major (internships, recommendations, coursework, ECs, answers to essay questions, etc.).

From the “Ask Uncle Ezra” column at Cornell from 2004:

Stern is in NYC. Probably better if you want to do investment banking. Though Cornell’s alumni network is probably substantially stronger.

Besides, from what I’ve seen the Hotel school seems to do a better job of business education than AEM.
