some people say cornel has a 10% acceptance rate, and others say around 20%...what's the real rate (stated by the college)...I can't find it anywhere...

when you apply to cornell aem, do you apply directly to that specific school????

Is there any reason why cornell AEM has such a low acceptance rate??? With only 100 kids in the AEM school, why would somone pick coornell AEM over dartmouth, columbia, ect....

also, if someone thinks that he cant get into AEM…but wants to go to cornell and do business related stuff…
what school would he apply to…college of arts and sciences?? Would that even be good for business related stuff at all???

is it common for people who want to major in business to go to college of arts and sciences, instead of AEM (b.c of the 11% acceptance rate???)

If so, how is job placement in selective firms (e.g. i-Banking)…

when you apply to AEM, you apply to the AEM major inside CALS. the acceptance rate of AEM is 11%. AEM has been ranked in the top 10 in the past few years. it is one of 2 accredited business programs in the ivy (the other being Wharton). if you go to dartmouth/columbia etc, you will get a ECON degree, not a business one.

you could also apply to ECON in arts and sciences at cornell, or PAM in Human Ecology, or ILR, or HOTEL etc. there are a lot of choices. it all depends on where you think you’ll fit in. AEM does have a small freshman class. a lot of people apply to it and they only accept a handful of students and thats why the acceptance rate is low.

as an AEMer i do have to say that i love AEM. the small class size gives us more individual attention, and i feel that they take us through things in the intro AEM classes that general ECON majors or others do not get exposed to so early on.

Yesterday at a top firm’s super day, there were 4 from Cornell, 4 from MIT, 2 from Stern, and 2 from Stanford. My daughter was the only one offered a job on the spot, but she is in A&S. Nice to know a Cornellian beat out kids from MIT and Stanford.

Congratulations and well done to your daughter, oldfort. Fantastic news given the tough hiring environment that many if not most students are currently facing.

@ superaznnerd: that analogy is true. but like i said, other programs do exist at cornell. most (a lot of) of AEM students ARE in finance specializations and are interested in iBanking though.
