Cornell aid

Hey guys I'm in a bit of a fix here. I'm thinking of applying ED to Cornell. However, my ability to attend depends a lot on the amt. of aid I get. Therefore, I wanna know if Cornell meets full demonstrated need for international students (I'm Indian, to be specific). Thanx.

It looks like not. https://www.finaid.cornell.edu/apply/international.cfm</a> And was that hard to find?

Keep in mind that many schools can’t meet the needs of int’ls and some are “need aware.”

Don’t apply anywhere ED unless you know that the finances will work. And, a school may decide that your family can pay more than you think your family can. The school decides what your family should pay after looking at income and assets, etc.

there are very few schools (~10) that are both need-blind and meet full need for internationals. Cornell is not one of them. (Hint: to find them, start at the top of USNews ranking, and go down the list.)

First try to determine if your family could afford to pay what a “need blind, full need” school would expect your family to pay.

There’s no point in applying ED to such a school if the school would determine that your family should pay a lot more than your family can afford.

I think Dartmouth has an online family contribution calculator. If so, try that one.

Well, Cornell offers financial aid to a small percentage of international students. So I don’t think you should apply ED to Cornell.

Either apply ED to other universities which offer financial aid to a greater number of international students or Wait till the regular decision. Or else you might end up nowhere if Cornell accepts you in ED but doesn’t give you enough aid.

Cornell IS need-blind for international students this year. However, it doesn’t guarantee that it’ll meet your full demonstrated need. Au contraire, it’s notorious for being really stingy with aid when it comes to international students.

*it’s notorious for being really stingy with aid when it comes to international students. *

I wonder if that’s because Cornell finds that it’s hard to verify assets (and sometimes income) for int’l students. It seems much easier for int’l students to hide assets/income.

Thanks a lot everyone. I’ve applied ED to Penn instead.
