Cornell and tests

Does Cornell count the SAT writing? if so how much weight

Does Cornell superscore the ACT?

Finally, what happens if I did substantially better on my ACT than I did on my SAT, but I need to send my SAT scores in for the SAT IIs and they see my SAT

Yeah, Cornell counts writing, though the general impression is that they weight reading and math more. Not sure about the ACT, someone else can answer that. If you need to send in SAT subject scores, they're going to see your SAT too. I'm not sure how they would view a higher ACT score and a lower SAT.

When I was first looking at the school a year ago I was told they were not counting the writing section at all just yet , since it was so new, and they were doing research on it so counting it would be a conflict of interest or something. The adcom that said this could have been misinformed or lying though. Writing was my lowest and I got in though :)

And I do believe that they superscore but I don't quite remember. I only took it once so I didn't pay attention to superscoring.

I'm pretty sure Cornell as a whole does not look at the writing section. I've sat in as a panelist on many CALS info sessions and the adcom members say they do not look at the writing section.

For my class (2011) they didn't use writing, and to the best of my knowledge they still don't. Which was great for me, lol.

Of course they see the writing section either way. Just cause they don't count it as much, doesn't mean getting a 300 or 400 won't hurt you

I would think that since the writing section use to be an sat II subject test, Cornell adcoms would presently use it in a similar way.

no one superscores the ACT.

everyone get that through your head: no one superscores the ACT. its not that hard of a test. do your best on every section each time you take it. remember, you can take the ACT however many times you want. but treat each time as if it was your last shot

the ACT is calculated through an AVERAGE. pulling the top 4 scores from you ACTs will totally and completely alter your score. the SAT, however, is a SUM so it is easier to superscore it (although i still think it is really unfair and disadvantageous for the students who only take it once instead of studying a lot for one section at a time, but thats jmo)

laurstar, are u positive about that or is that just an educated guess,
I have been looking around the forums here, and on all of the ACT superscore posts I see, Cornell is always there, can anyone officially confirm or deny this please?

at least that what it was for my year. call the school to see if that has changed for future classes
