Cornell Architecture Chances

What are my chances for Cornell Architecture Art and Planning, Cooper Union, Syracuse University, Dartmouth, Brown, Princeton, Penn, and Yale? Thanks!

Senior Year Course Load: Heavy

Academic Honors: National Ventures Scholar (2014); National Honor Society (>100 hours) (2014-Present); English Honor Society (2014-Present); French Honor Society (2013-Present); Technology Honor Society (2013-Present)

  • Interview for Cornell went pretty well. Interviewer said that my portfolio was strong.

Extracurricular:
Technology Student Association (TSA) (4 years)- Vice President of Leadership (10), Vice President (11), President (12) - (most meaningful commitment, placed first in the state of NJ for 2 years in a row);
Helped start a new club with my friends for the She’s the First Organization (I’m head of fundraising and events coordinator)
Executive Board member for my class council for 2 years;
Senior underclassmen mentor

Volunteer/Community service: 100+ hours tutoring math, English, French; special olympics volunteer for my high school; 30+ hours at local animal shelter

Summer Activities: Received the William Elliot scholarship to attend Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Diversity Architecture Pre-College for 6 weeks; About - Architecture intensive course - Carnegie Mellon University;
Selected among 800 applicants for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund Youth Leadership Institute

Teacher Recommendation: History teacher will be great very personal. AP English will be great as well, he is known for extremely awesome letters. Architecture teacher will be amazing, I’ve known her for 4 years and she’s very close with me.

Counselor Rec: Will talk about involvement in activities

Additional Rec: Professor from Carnegie Mellon Summer Program for Architecture will be pretty great and he went to Cornell graduate school for architecture.

Parent Education/Employment: Dad B.S., Mom high school.
Language: English is first but Spanish at home

cooper union is all about home test so impossible to chance u

nobody can accurately chance u for the other schools

I’d say you have an okay shot for Cornell, the SAT score is low for a lot of these schools, keep that in mind. The GPA seems good though (again, keep in mind people were rejected from all of these schools with 4.0 GPA’s). But the fact that your school is competitive will help that (they will look at your grades in the context of the competitiveness and difficulty of your school), and the URM hook will help a lot too. Your EC’s are pretty great. And the recs look good too, my suggestion is to put everything into your essay. EDIT, EDIT, EDIT!!

Ivies in general are a crapshoot, just remember that if you don’t get in, it isn’t your grades, and it doesn’t mean that you’re a bad candidate. You might just not be the kind of candidate that “stands out” to them. They want a fully rounded class, and if they’ve already admitted a lot of people similar to you, they might not let you in.
