Cornell Architecture ED

I am applying to AAP Early Decision, and I would like to know if I have a chance.

Ethnicity: Chinese international student studying at an US high school

Interview and art portfolio:
My interview with an alumni who is a professor teaching M.Arch went well, we talked for 1hr 15 min, I brought all my 2D art works and a printed art portfolio and resume. Talked about my research interest in interdisciplinary studies such as combining architecture with material science and solving the problem of air pollution by building architecture with specialized exterior materials; talked about sustainability and urbanization etc.
My art portfolio contains Clay Sculpture, Acrylic, Pen & ink, graphite,charcoal, colored pencil, and marker drawings...the content includes self portraits, landscape, and artistic drawings of architecture. The art portfolio shows my concern on current events and my interest in humanitarianism. My art works promotes attempt to solve the problem of water pollution, anti-war movement etc. I took graphic design classes before so I feel confident about the design of my portfolio.

sorry I can’t provide anymore detailed info…I don’t wish to reveal my identity

It comes down to your essay’s and how your portfolio compares with others!

I think you have a good chance. I hope to see you at Cornell next year

I was deferred.

I believe that the reasons that I am deferred are that: 1) I am an asian girl, and I am international 2) my GPA is too low due to all the transferring and different grading policies (studied at 4 different high school so my transcripts is hard to understand) 3) my art work is not abstract enough (in the interview the professor said that my works are too literal 4) my extracurricular activities are too weak

I think my chances of being admitted in the regular decision round is quite low… So, even though Cornell is still my #1 school, can some one chance me for other schools? I have applied to UT Austin, Cal Polytechnic; I am applying to Rice; I don’t know if I should apply to RISD and Columbia.

How about Carnegie Mellon? They have a great program as well.

Yeah, they have common app…I could think about applying there.

Hi. In case you are wondering what the differences are between a BArch and a BS Architecture - please see: <a href=“What is the difference between the 5 yr b.arch and the 4+2 masters degree in architecture? - Architecture Major - College Confidential Forums”>What is the difference between the 5 yr b.arch and the 4+2 masters degree in architecture? - Architecture Major - College Confidential Forums;

@newjersey17‌ Hey thanks!!!

Just wondering, what supplemental materials should I send to Cornell since I am deferred? I know that I should send a letter of interest stating that Cornell is still my first choice. Should I update my portfolio ( I made 5 more art work since I applied to Cornell)? Should I take one more SAT and maybe get my score up to 2250? Should I tell them about my extracurricular activities such as NAHS, UIL Math & Spelling & Science? (but I didn’t get any new leadership position or win any more awards yet)…

Letter of interest and a portfolio showing your development as an artist will probably be your best bet!

@Katielovearchi‌ hey! My floormate was also deferred initially (she was an art major). She basically said she turned in a lot more work and just actively showed that she was interested in Cornell. AA&P is one of the schools that generally accept a lot more people regular decision. Don’t give up hope!

Thank you so much!

I got admitted UT Austin Architecture and several other schools with scholarship…Cornell University is the only school I waiting to hear from now…! Hopefully I’ll get admitted!
