For those of you who are planning on pursuing a career in business, what college within Cornell did you apply to? Also, what are you majoring? Is Cornell's business program any good? I applied to engineering, got in, and am now having second thoughts about if it's the thing i wanna do for the rest of my life.

um search cornell's website they have a thing on business through all schools at cornell. AEM is moving up in rankings every year

Cornell's undergraduate business program AEM is in CALS and yes, it's ranked very high. Your overall major is Applied Economics and Mangement, and you can concentrate in finance, administration, etc, etc :)

There are also business-related aspects in the Hotel school and even ILR (my program); and there is an Operations Research engineering major, if that's something you'd also like to consider (it does have an interest in business). If you're already coming, you can always come, take a few of the engineering requirements, and then change schools once you're here (it's really easy, I have a friend who was a Mech Eng and now is a history major). You might take a business class and realize that the ORIE major is better for you. Browse the Cornell website (under Academics) and look at the courses to give you a better idea. :)

I applied economics in arts and sciences, but am trying to switch into AEM in CALS now that I found out about it. It sounds very hard to do but I hope I can luck out.

thanks for all your replies everyone.
mcdcoops: how are you trying to switch?

I was just reading about Operations Research and Engineering offered through the engineering college... and it looks dope. It is very business-y and technical. If you got into the College of Engineering, put that brain to use and go for ORE.

Well, I plan on staying a semester or year in CAS, and try to fulfill some requirements that are good for CAS and AEM. (You can't switch right away).

The requirements for being considered for transfer into AEM are a 3.0 GPA, B or better in 2 AEM courses, and having taken Economics and Calculus.

After I fulfill them, I'll sumbit a transfer request and hope for the best. I think the best thing to do is talk to your advisor and tell them your situation

AEM is good, I'll be in it next year. Building is in bad shape. AEM grads enjoy the highest % of enrollement into top MBA programs, higher than any other biz school in the nation (World?).

building in bad shape? what's up with it?

It's dilapadated, old, no air conditioning so it's stuffy a lot of the time. My understanding is that it's not that big of a deal for the AEM students. They say you welcome it since it is cold often.

Perhaps they will build a new one soon, the school just got some more millions.

they'll build a new building sometime. They just have like ... 18 other building that are currently being worked on. Not enough construction workers!!

But yeah, I expect the AEM building to go through renovations sometime in the near future.

One of my interests is Business. Does anyone know if ILR is a good school to get an MBA out of?

Yes. About a third of the class goes on to get an MBA.

I was also wondering what are the quality of schools people from ILR go to for their MBA?

that's tough to judge since most students dont get their MBA's right away. They work for like 4-5 years before that. I DO however know of 3 ilr alums who went onto MBA program: one went to UCB Haas and two ended up at Wharton (not bad places to be).

I don't really know people with MBA's so I am kinda ignorant on the subject. So people work a few years before going directly to get one? (to get into better schools im guessing or to get $)

What kinds of business courses do hotel school students usually take? Is the calculus difficult? :(

PAM in the Humec school is also very suitable for those who want to pursue business, its my major next year

Can junior students still change their major? (I guess it's kinda late right?)
Say ILR to AEM? Just curious since AEM sounds so appealing to me. Thanks.
