Cornell CALS vs CAS premed

I was accepted as a CALS transfer admit for the biological science major. I have to take the following courses at a different school with a 3.0 GPA first semester and during midterm second semester:

One full academic year of Introductory Biology with labs
Two College Writing/English Composition courses or one writing/composition and Public Speaking
Chemistry I & II with labs
Calculus I and either Calculus II or Statistics
If I complete these requirements I will be offered admission for fall 2016.

I’m very excited that I’ve been offered this option. However, I was wondering if there are any differences between a Biological Sciences major, premed track at CALS vs Bio major, premed at CAS. I know a large percentage of premeds from Cornell get into medical school, but I was wondering if this statistic only applies to those premeds in CAS.

I’d also appreciate any info of what it is like as a premed at Cornell! (Research, volunteer opportunities, study abroad, social life, and overall happiness)

The premed track is pretty much the same wherever you would study in the entire US. If the major you expect to have is offered in both CALS and CAS, then you can easily check the CU website to see what the differences are in graduation requirements.

As to stats for med school admission from CALS, CAS, HUMEC, etc. it really is perfectly OK for you to contact the people at CU and ask them.

i believe that the two majors are the same at both colleges. not 100% sure though
i’m applying to Cornell as well and i was wondering if you knew anything about any advantages CAS would give over CALS when it comes to doing pre med. I think that CAS has a liberal arts approach whereas CALS does not, will this give me a significant advantage when applying to med school?
