Cornell - Chance Me

Hello! This isn’t an official chance me as I’m only a sophomore in high school but I just wanted to see if I’m going on the right path to get into my dream school and get any tips and advice on what else I can do.

I’m an out of state student and realllyyy want to get into CALS at Cornell, more specifically I want to be a food/nutritional sciences major.

About Me:

  • Female Chinese-American
  • Family Income is $100k +
  • Have a twin sister (could this be a factor financial wise?)
  • I’m in a vocational school for math, science, and engineering. 26 people from the county get selected to go to this school.
  • There’s no class ranking because there’s only 26 of us
  • No official SAT/ACT score. From Khan Academy practice tests, my best score is a high 1300 for SAT(these scores might not be a good basis though because I’ve heard that the practices on Khan Academy are a lot easier than the actual ones)
  • I’ve been volunteering at a hospital since the summer of 2017 (have 100+ hours)
  • Participated in the NJ TSA state conference (1 year)
  • Participated in Science Olympiad at the regional level (2 years) and state level (1 year)
  • Participated in the NJSMA Region I Orchestra (1 year)
  • Play in a youth orchestra (2 years w/ high seat positions)
  • Starting varsity field hockey goalie for my school (1 year)
  • If all things go well, I plan on being a TA for my home district’s summer STEAM camp
  • Hobbies: cooking/baking, playing violin (been playing since elementary school)

School Stuff:
-Took: English 9 H, Spanish 1, Geometry H, Algebra 2 H, World History H, AP Physics, CAD (computer-aided design), Strings
GPA: 99.15 (weighted) 94.97 (unweighted)

-Currently Taking: English 10 H, Spanish 3, Precalc H, US History 1 H, Chemistry H, Fundamentals of Engineering (basically CAD 2), Strings, AP Comp Sci A,

-Plan on Taking: Business Strategies, AP Lit, AP Calc AB, AP Chem, Biology H, APUSH, AP Psych, Strings

Also, this summer I’m planning on taking the SAT Math II Subject Test and the SAT.

Thanks for any help!

On the right track! Keep up your grades and work at prepping for the SAT/ACT so it is a competitive score. And number of students in college is considered for financial aid.

That ACT/SAT is crucial! All those AP classes will look great as well. But I recommend going a step further and doing AP Calc BC as well. Also Cornell looks for people who know where they are going. I suggest taking course that are directly correlated to your anticipated major. (Anatomy, and culinary classes, AP Bio) best of luck for your future!
