Cornell Chances and Suggestions

Hi all! I'm a junior now and I'm thinking about applying ED (because my counselor said it's possible) to Cornell in 2014. What are my chances and possible suggestions to improve my profile? :)

Profile:
SAT I: 2150
ACT: N/A
SAT II: Biology - 750, World History - 750; will take Math 2 and Chemistry this June
Weighted GPA (out of 4.8): 4.8
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
Rank: #1, Valedictorian
AP Classes:
-Biology with 5
-World History with 5
-Junior year: taking Chemistry, Eng Lang/Comp, U.S. History, Chinese Lang/Culture exam
-Senior year: taking Calculus BC, Physics C, Eng Lit/Comp, Environmental Science, U.S. Gov/Pol
Extracurricular Activities (Cumulative):
-Choir, Secretary of Choir Board, 3 years
-Science Olympiad, 2 years
-National Honor Society, lost election for Secretary, 3 years
-KEY Club, 3 years
-We The People, senior year
Volunteer/Community service: 300+ hours
Summer Activities: Volunteer at library and hospital

State (if domestic applicant): Nevada
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: M
Income Bracket: Dunno, but annual income is $30,000 to $40,000 range
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation to college

As you can see, there aren't many extracurricular opportunities in Nevada ;)

Everything looks pretty good to me! You could try taking the SAT again after some prep and try for another leadership position next year. I think some big things to work on would be recommendatons and essays at this point. I think you have enough extracurriculars so make sure you remember quality over quantity. Hope that’s helpful! What college are you applying to?

Your stats are in range for Cornell (although a ~50 point SAT bump into the 2200s won’t harm you). What really works in favor for you is your income range and location - both demographic/geographic ‘affirmative action’ bumps for you, although being Asian won’t help you.

Keep up your stellar GPA and try for some summer activity related to whatever major you’re interested in (somewhat difficult given you’re in Las Vegas, so you’re really limited to research under a professor at UNLV or something).

Which of the seven schools at Cornell are you trying to get into?

Oops, the SAT II score for biology is a typo. It’s 780.

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated! :)

I’m deciding between CAS and CALS, but leaning toward CALS.
