Cornell Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Well, from my knowledge (I’m just another applicant lol), it is basically how well they think you would fit into their program and how interested you have projected yourself to be. I think that is weighted more heavily than pure test scores and accomplishments. I may, of course, be wrong though.

Do the teacher evaluations show up on the Cornell Portal?

@Iboss, even though Cornell has the highest acceptance rate, it is certainly not the worst Ivy. On every ranking I’ve seen Brown has always been ranked the lowest and Cornell is often ranked above Dartmouth and UPenn. The only Ivies that I think are clearly better than Cornell are Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. Columbia, in my opinion, has a terrible campus and way too many required courses. I agree that Cornell really looks for “fit” over numbers. While you probably won’t see too many people admitted to Cornell with lower than a 2000-2100 on the SAT, especially RD, Cornell wants to know your academic achievement and intellectual ability as reflected through a myriad of factors, particularly EC’s and essays.

@happy2102 - Mine didn’t!!

@mmatt - Hopefully that will help overshadow my not so great SAT!! :slight_smile:
But yeah - Cornell’s probably more “holistic” in their admissions process!!

@mmatt
Thanks bro! It would be nice to be accepted to Cornell!
Best of luck to us both!

I have submitted my application on Dec 12 but did not receive any confirmation/App Id from cornell till now except for the automatic common app reply.
Did all of you guys got the application status check ID right away?

Haha, I can assure you guys that Cornell is very holistic with applications, as long as you give them a good reason to be!

Again, good luck to everyone!

@NatGeo I received my confirmation by email 3 days after I submitted my app.

@mmaatt I agree with ya. If one determines the quality of institutions solely based on acceptance rates, then Cornell indeed would be the “worst” ivy. However, the truth is that the quality of education that one will receive at an institution depends on a variety of factors. Cornell engineering is arguably one of the best in the nation and Cornell’s hotel management program is the best in the nation. The “relatively” high acceptance rate is only due to the size of the school and what’s wrong about accepting a large number of excellent students.

My financial aid portal on Cornell’s website is blank, any reason why??

I didn’t submit the CSS profile yet - but shouldn’t it atleast say pending or something else??

^ Same with me, maybe they will update it later, (when the CSS deadline is closeby). Just my guess.

Did you send the CSS yet??

^ no not yet. This week or the next probably

probably the first time ive ever heard columbias campus referred to as “terrible”. i think its perfect, but i to each their own?

i fell in love with cornells campus when i was surfing the web, applied ED but was deferred, aparently was lots more competition this year…

i can imagine 100X more competiion during RD…

I sent CSS, but not the statement from my father’s employer

^ How do you send the statement with the CSS? :S
via email? :O

I just got contacted by my interviewer this morning. I’ve gotta have it sometime this week, but it has to be a phone Interview because I can’t make it allll the way downtown.

Interviewing today!

Good luck, Luke!
