Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@jf2580 that piece of music is lovely. Thanks!

If you’re applying to CAS with a major in Biology it’s pretty much a dead giveaway that you’re premed right? Does anyone know how competitive it is to get into general bio through CAS?

@DivergingLens So the bio in CAS is extremely competitive program? @CornMine You’re welcome :smiley:

@CCSenioritis
Naviance makes even the most qualified applicants feel awful, you should be glad you can’t convince yourself to go on! Although there is a 45% acceptance rate at my school (early decision), I already know of two people that are already in. Also only 1% of applicants in my school’s history have been deferred then accepted (out of 50+ applicants).
edit* 50+ applicants in past 4 years :stuck_out_tongue:
@DivergingLens
Bio is really competitive.

@CCSenioritis your school counselor should give you the same data that naviance provides

what do you guys know about the competitiveness of chemical biology in cas?

Bio=premed=a lot of people=competitive

But if you have the stats and demonstrate your fit you have as good a shot as anybody!

@seniorlife555 ya i have the same problem as @NorthCoaster , I can only see the info for the class of 2015

@Fellowship Well eff me… I didn’t know what else I could apply under lol. I put a research spin on my essay and didn’t mention medicine or premed at all in my app but I still think they’ll see a premed coming from a mile away.

@CCSenioritis don’t worry! the data you get from naviance isn’t all that useful! For instance, it says my school has a 35% ED acceptance rate with an average 3.88 GPA, but that doesn’t take into account the fact that a) we have a ton of recruited athletes each year and b) we are in Canada so most of the people applying are considered as international

my anxiety is getting so unhealthy that i imagine getting accepted and how i’m going to tell all my friends and family to the point where i start tearing up from happy tears and then i remember it isn’t real and that i’m probably going to get rejected and then i curl up in a ball and silently rock back and forth

Is anyone else here applying for just “Biological Sciences” and not “Biology and Society” or etc. through CAS?

@plzacceptmee @NorthCoaster
There is no way to see the number of people applying this year i’m pretty sure. If someone knows, I don’t think it’s because of Naviance.

I keep thinking we get decisions tomorrow and then I remember we have a whole another day to get through…uggg

@corgis I just imagine myself wearing that Cornell t-shirt and hoodie all over school in January after winter break XD the thought of having to wear one from any other school makes me sick haha

@DivergingLens
lol there’s nothing you can do about it now and no point in worrying about it. You’ve done all you can, you’re a qualified applicant that’s worthy of Cornell. Just got to hope 51% of that final committee likes you on paper!!

Oh and about the whole clothing thing. I made the mistake of wearing a Cornell hoodie several days this year (I’ve had it for several years cus u kno #dreamy’all). Everyone knows where I applied and always talk about it…regret that decision so much.

Also does anyone know if you can get a conditional ED acceptance?

@DivergingLens ahahahhaha i’d just not wear a hoodie

those red numbers on naviance get me so nervous

@plzacceptmee No they don’t. Just have to make sure you do OK 3rd and 4th quarter.
