Cornell Class of 2020 Guaranteed Transfer Discussion Thread

Hi guys, I got a transfer option from Human Ecology and I was wondering if its the same thing as the guaranteed transfer. The Human Ecology College was being dodgy about it so I’m not sure. So excited though!!!

Does anyone want to make like a group chat on Facebook or something, I feel like we all have a lot of questions and if we’re gonna be dealing this for the next year it might be nice to do it together!!

@pippathomas Did you join the Chatter group through Cornell? If so, you will find links to a FB page and a GroupMe as well. I am not participating of course, but my son joined and I keep a bit of an eye on things. There is important stuff like a poll for the best dates for the summer open house.

I don’t think i’ll take the offer, because it says that I would have to write a whole new essay.

@CAMidwestMom how do you join the chatter group??

@pippathomas The link should be in the email about the transfer option. Or, maybe it was a separate email, but it came directly from Cornell and it’s been active for a couple of weeks I think. There is a Cornell staff moderator who is very good about answering questions. Also, it is kind of cool to see that there are people from all over the country and in many majors who are excited about the option.

@stressfulstudent - yes, the Transfer Option is the “guaranteed transfer.” Cornell will not use that term, because of course they will not “guarantee” anything. If you read carefully, Cornell also refers to it as a “priority” transfer. You are treated differently from other transfer students. As others have said, if you meet the requirements, you will almost certainly be admitted as a transfer. So yes, you should be excited!

@lolog123 where does it say you would have to write an entirely new essay? and what school did you apply to?

@jacbellini for humec it says you have to

oh alright. it doesn’t say that for ILR so I was wondering if that was a school-specific requirement. @lolog123

The guaranteed transfer option has different requirements depending on the college at Cornell you got it from.

For some colleges it’s not even “guaranteed” and for others you might have to restart the whole application process with essays and etc.

I know for CALS it’s a guaranteed option as that’s what we got in the email and also we don’t have to do any essays or other stuff like that.

@blprof thanks so much! Is anyone else a little stressed about this offer? Either way congrats to everyone who got it  X_X

Yes, it is stressful, but you will forget about it once you start freshman year and become immersed in college life (and then get stressed again in the spring when you are waiting for your midterm grades). My child received this offer last year, accepted the option but had the attitude that she would attend her second choice school and be happy if she stayed there. So you have the best of both worlds if you take the required courses and get the requisite GPA . Try to keep that in mind when you are waiting for your spring midterm grades. We found that to be stressful, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

so where is everyone going for their first yr?

Did anyone from CALS receive anything in the mail. We haven’t received anything. My D received an email abt the transfer option after the decisions. Nothing after that.

If you received an email that indicated the TO, then eventually you’ll receive another email with link where you can indicate a ‘yes’ to the option. It is non binding. I’d say it will be at least a few weeks, maybe more, before you receive that notification. CALS class 2019 TO decisions seem to have just been issued. We just received our decision today. You can see the 2019 CALS TO information here: http://admissions.cals.cornell.edu/sites/admissions.cals.cornell.edu/files/shared/documents/Transfer-Option-Summary.pdf

I presume 2020 will be similar. As stated earlier, requirements vary per college and major. With CAS, it is not ‘guaranteed’ even if requirements are met. The CAS letter states the minimum reqs to be ‘competitive’.

Our kid did not find it stressful all that much. It was an opportunity to attend an excellent college for a year, and, have Cornell as an awesome backup. Consider it a Gift !!!

I think I’ll just go to UT Austin.

bing

Fordham

I think Syracuse!! Anyone else going there or get a TO for cas??
