Cornell Class of 2020 Waitlist Thread

This was the CALS email. While it says for Fall, I think unless you indicated interest in Spring before, that won’t happen:

Earlier this spring, you asked us to keep your name on our wait list in case we were able to make any more offers of admission for the 2016 fall semester. We now have a clear picture of the number of students who will be enrolling in the fall and, unfortunately, we will not have a place in the class to offer you.

We appreciate your interest in Cornell and your patience while you were on the wait list. You are a student who has much to contribute to a college community. We are confident that you have other fine opportunities for undergraduate education and know you will thrive wherever you enroll.

If, after a successful year or two elsewhere, you continue to believe that Cornell may be the right school for you, we hope you will consider applying to transfer here. Cornell enrolls between 600-700 transfer students each year, and you will find information for transfer applicants on our website: admissions.cornell.edu.

In the meantime, my very best wishes for every success as you continue your education.

@hrsmom That letter seems final. They are saying that you can always apply to transfer after your freshman or sophomore years, but it’s over for now. :frowning:

Yes. So it seems. Doesn’t sound like a ton of movement on the WL cascade this year? Good luck all!

Are you receiving the notification through your email to sign into the portal like the regular decision email?

No, the email says it.

Bad news! I just called up the CALS admissions. They won’t be taking anyone anymore from wait list for this year. They shall however be sending out few students a transfer option

What’s the transfer option?

@sisirox I got the transfer option for HumEc right away when decisions came out- basically you go to another school for a year, build your schedule around classes that Cornell wants you to take, get a good GPA and don’t majorly screw up, and you get priority consideration in the transfer pool for next fall. I initially said yes because there’s really no downside to doing so, as I don’t have to actually pursue it, but now I’ve pretty much given up on it ever happening. It’s harder than it sounds to make one school’s freshman course requirements work with another’s (speaking from my experience at the school I’ll be attending in the fall), and I’ve become pretty discouraged by Cornell’s admissions process as a whole. I definitely see the positives of the transfer option and encourage anyone who gets it to accept (it’s not binding) and to look into it further to see if it’s the right option for you!

^Good for you @hayley636 . I so wish kids would take back their power in this process. I’m sure most of you committed to amazing schools. Get excited. Go Blue! Green, Roll Tide, Hook EM… Whatever!!! Take back your power kids. You don’t need the extra stress. If something comes of the WL, great. If not, then you are still going to an amazing school!

My S had a huge cliff after his #1 choice (Duke). After that, the next 5 were equal in his eyes. He got into 2, picked one. Now I’m making a Blue and Maize quilt! Dive into the current experience!

And remember, this is about them (Cornell), not you. You are great:)

@HRSMom Thank you! I’ve committed to Northeastern University, and I’m really excited for the fall. I was the same way as your son, top choice of Cornell with my next 3 choices equal to me, and I was devastated to not get in ED to Cornell and then to receive the transfer option. But now I’m realizing that I’ll be just as happy if not happier somewhere else, and I don’t want Cornell to control my whole freshman year the way they want to with the transfer option.

I was just offered a transfer option in the fall of 2017

Do all waitlist applications get the transfer option?

applicants*

No they don’t Yoyohi

Does anyone know how many people got accepted off the Cornell waitlist?

I just got the transfer option to CALS as well! Is it guaranteed for fall 2017? What if you want to change your major?

Does anyone know if I’d be able to do a year at a community college and then transfer to Cornell with the transfer option?

I got the transfer option for CALS today!

So are you transfer option people planning on taking it? If so, what are you doing freshman year?

I have to decide between Berkeley L&S (pre-Haas) and Cornell Dyson for my sophomore year :(. Which one would you guys choose?
