Have a plan, but don't stress too early. Depending on your first-year college, you may be assigned to classes by your advisor for your first semester. Tell them about the TO requirements and they should be willing to work with you. They'll love it if you come to the table with some ideas of your own and they might have suggestions that you hadn't even thought of.
Don't be afraid to be a little pushy. Contact professors for syllabi ahead of course registration (especially for the writing requirement, it's very specific and they are NOT flexible with awarding transfer credit for it) and send them to Cornell for review asap. Obviously don't do this for every class you're considering and don't be obnoxious about it, but do your research and once you think you've found something send it over. There are ways to work around prereqs and class-standing requirements for most things if you talk to the right people (start with your advisor and/or the professor). Again don't overdo it but if necessary it can be a lifesaver.
Don't get discouraged. I found out last week that I won't be getting as much credit as I had hoped, which is extremely disappointing but it's gonna work out. While they aren't super lenient in counting certain courses towards the transfer requirements, they do seem to appreciate students that make a real effort to complete the list. I did everything I could, it wasn't quite right for credit, but I still got in!
Calm down. You have time. Everything will be okay. Enjoy the end of senior year and put all of this stuff out of your mind until you really need to think about it.
Thanks @cricketfan and @aihcxx . After I’m done with AP testing in two weeks I think I will try and really start putting my mind into this. I just hope Ian won’t mind that I’ll be sending my email a couple weeks later than he asked.
I got the same Transfer Option as well. I applied to CALS and thinking of majoring in Bio Sciences. I am very excited for this opportunity but confused at the same time. I’m planning on going to Stony Brook for my first year.
@joel211999 - Don’t be confused. We are here to support. I am in the same boat as you (although for ILR). Some people from TO 2020 class are also here and they answer questions.
I applied to CALS and got the TO. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be going to Cornell in the end bc of parents; I’ve committed wholly to another school. I just wish I could get rid of the email “daily digest” alerts for CALS TO; it gets annoying and clogs up my inbox
@gzuzumaki - Did you apply for 2021?
I’m surprised that you are getting ‘daily digest’ from CALS TO. I guess it differs by college because I have not heard a peep from ILR after the confirmation of the acceptance of TO. The only email I have gotten are replies from ILR admissions office to specific questions.
I am planning to go to Fordham at Rose Hill - Gabelli Business School this fall. does anyone have info on how easy/hard it is to transfer from Fordham?
@imcxmi@idekidc I was skimming through the thread because I didn’t fully understand the TO for Human Ecology. And then I saw that there would be others attending Fordham’s Gabelli at Rose Hill as well! Can we talk?
