So... Who else was accepted into the Cornell Tradition, Hunter R. Rawlings III Cornell Presidential Research Scholars, or Meinig Family Cornell National Scholars?????????

I got into the Meinig Family National Scholars program!

I just got the Research Scholars email.

i got the hunter r. rawlings one. what does it mean? how do they select people for these?

The admissions officers select students for ach. there is no application and only 45 of each are selected each year.

I got the Hunter R. Rawlings III one too

I got accepted into the Cornell Tradition

kwongvc - which one???

rustyram--really? 45 of each? where did u get that?

if you go to the Meinig website they have the list of past/current recipiets. and each year there were 45. and they also say that there are 200 scholars from each program at the school at a time. so if that's true than it may be less than 45 per year.

i got the Cornell Tradition too... what does it mean though?

Meinig here!

I got the cornell tradadition. From what I can gather it's a honors society that you must reapply for annually. It encourages on-campus employment by susidizing half of your cost to a particular place of employment. (i.e. if your salary at the Library was $8/hour, you would only cost the library $4) It also has something to do with applying for financial aid, and summer internships. I think you need 85 hours of service per year with at least 15 of them being community service and the rest school service.

i got into the rawlings thing but i dunno what it is. =]

my daughter was named both a Meinig and Tanner Dean's scholar, and FINALLY tonight announced to me Cornell 76 and dad Cornell 76 and brother Cornell 07 that yes, she too will wear Carnelian and White!

that's awesome! I bet y'all are so excited! I will be an incoming freshman, and I can't wait!

my dad was class of 76 too--small world!

does anyone know what exactly the Meinig Family National Scholars Program is?

What do we do as part of the program?

there are several aspects of the program - you are eligible for money to cover your living expenses one summer while working at either an UNPAID internship or non-profit - plus you will receive the amount of money Cornell would have expected you to have earned that summer if you were working - EVEN if you don't qualify for financial aid - becuz CU assumes your parents would want you to make some money to contribute - that amount rises from about $2000 first year to more each year...plus a book stipend I think, plus a replacement of up to $4000 in loans per year with grants in your aid package if applicable. In return, you are required to participate in a "leadership" role or organization on campus...plus you will meet with other Meinig scholars regularly for support and service time...there was a meeting during Cornell days to explain all this but I'm sure if you contact the person who sent you to letter and ask for more info, they will explain the benefits and requirements to you - Know that you were selected because of your leadership and service and Cornell would like to encourage you to continue that during your college years - there are only 50 in each incoming class -

hm, I got the Rawlings Research one...anyone know if you can do research at places other than cornell and get moneys for living expenses and stuff? I have a couple nice internship offers at berkeley but I can't actually afford to live there. o.O but I dunno if they'll let me use the money prefrosh.

does being a tradition fellow give you department connections for getting research positions?
