I know of course that Cornell's CS department is highly esteemed. However I am kind of curious about whether Cornell's location will hurt the future job-hunting of CS graduates. After all, Cornell is too far away from Silicon Valley and is not really near NYC or other major cities, so I wonder if CS majors can really find interns and jobs easily both during and after their undergraduate years. Where do they go?

Cornell’s location is not going to hinder you much with future job-hunting. Given the fact that CS itself is already in high demand and Cornell’s CS program is arguably top 5 in the nation (rankings will always vary, in case anyone’s going to be nitpicky about this), you’ll have no problem finding an internship/job. Almost every job/internship postings these days seek CS people. On top of this plethora of opportunities, you have companies such as apple, microsoft, facebook, google, intel, yahoo, etc that comes to Cornell on career fair and heavily recruit here. Here’s a sample of some of the alumni placements: [Alumni Destinations](Alumni Destinations | Department of Computer Science)

Thanks a lot, man. The placement list is very interesting.

I am actually an international student and I want to stay in U.S. after graduation. Since I’m not going to have a green card when I graduate, I wonder if I will be in a disadvantage when I compete with U.S. citizens for jobs. Does anyone have an idea about that?

There’s actually a couple of career fairs that come to campus each year in search of bright eyed students. For example the big names you were mentioning were on campus recruiting students in February for summer internships. Although Cornell is far away from major CS hubs it’s okay because the companies always come to us.
