Cornell Days vs. DHW

I'm pretty set that I'm going to Cornell, and I'm intrigued to visit again either during Cornell Days or the DHW, but I'm not entirely sure what the differences between the two are. From what I can tell, Cornell Days consists more of information about the school, tours and things like that, but DHW is more of a hands-on student experience. Other than that, I'm pretty much clueless. Can anybody tell me the main aspects of each, and pros and cons of attending one over another? Any information is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Thats about right. I think you have to be invited to DHW and you stay with a current Cornell undergrad. Also, DHW is for minority students only who are flown in to Ithaca by Cornell University. Cornell Days is for admitted students and their families (while DHW is not). You can read about Cornell Days here: [Cornell University Undergraduate Admissions Office -CORNELL DAYS](http://www.admissions.cornell.edu/seasonal/cornelldays/)

Are you sure that they will arrange for a flight? The email only states that they provide limited transportation.

“limited transportation” is for those who live 200miles (maybe 150) away…

Yeah, I live over 1000 miles from Ithaca so Cornell is arranging the flight…same for you since you live in Florida.

or maybe it is over 1k miles…not sure what the mile range is now

You can also arrange to stay with a current student for Cornell Days too. This is organized by the red carpet society.

So for DHW, Cornell actually arranges and pays for your travel if it’s over 1000 miles?

But for regular Cornell Days, no such arrangements are made.

I know I’m being a ■■■■■ (yes I’m admitting it in this thread), but isn’t that basically illegal and racial discrimination?

Well, it is a different program. Would it be possible to attend a Cornell Days event the day before DHW starts?

not all invited for DHW are racial minorities…some are just for example, the only person from their state admitted…

but i’m guessing the fact that they are a private institution?

This is directly from the site set up for this years DHW students:

That’s pretty cool. Again, would it be possible to get a flight a day or two before DHW in order to get a Cornell Days visit as well? I have a friend who wants to visit but did not get a DHW invite as he went in the fall.

im almost 100% sure, but i think you can register for Cornell Days for no additional cost, so you would be able to participate in events. Most of them are during the day: tours, college information sessions, scheduled classes you can sit in (which should require no registration).

You have to have the flight booked by March 28th.

If Cornell is paying for your flight they have ultimate say in when your flight is.

If you live within 300 miles, and you wish to get to Cornell a day or so early to do Cornell days AND DHW, that’s your prerogative. All in all though, DHW is more comprehensive than Cornell days, and so if you do attend DHW, you have attended Cornell days + more.
