Hey guys, saw people asking about a deferred forum so I thought I would make it. Feel free to share rants and strategies :)/
got deferred:( Do you know how many percentages of people got deferred and how many get in in RD pool? Also if I took ACT again after can i submit it to make my super score higher im so sad
Got deferred from AAP ;(. Anyone have stats per major for @colormagix I am curious too.
Got deferred from AAP. Really disappointed, but I think we should all keep in mind deferred is still better than rejected. Would like to know what peopleās plans are for supplement; I believe we have until February 15 according to the link we all got in our unfortunate letter: https://forms.admissions.cornell.edu/webform/admissions/submit.php
Also any other AAPs out there that want to discuss their deferral? From the main thread Iāve see quite a few other ED architecture applicants get deferred. Think this might have something to do with the 15% increase in ED/EA applicants (?) :-/
Does anyone here know the deferred stats? Also for deferred do we hav to rewrite our supplements?
@StateofLimbo I applied to AAP too and I got deferred. I was almost certain that I would get rejected.
You do not have to rewrite your supplements. Everything stays the same, but you do have an option on submitting any new accomplishments/progress.
Other than recommendations what else do we submit? I saw that we could write an essay but what would it be about?
Did anyone here get something like this:
Cornell has not yet made a decision on your early decision application. You will receive more information within the next few days. Should you have questions, you are welcome to contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office next week at 607.255.5241 and we can provide you with an update regarding your application. Thank you!!
@apham45 Going to check with my university counsellor about āsupplemental informationā, but I donāt believe they are looking for another essay (?). I think they are just giving those who were deferred a chance to let them know thinks that have happened between Nov 1st and the eventual deadline for āsupplemental informationā in February. Also, Iāve read that people have submitted additional recommendation letters in the supplemental information.
My plan is to call ILR with my guidance counselor and ask where I went wrong (I saw in old threads people have done this) and write a super heartfelt letter of intent. also probably a seance.
@StateofLimbo did you have a solid portfolio / ECs? AAP tend to lean on that more heavily than GPA or test scores.
Any stats or recommendations available for deferred students for CALS?
Heyā¦ Deferred CALS Info Sciā¦ Anyone else? Planning on writing a letter and getting another rec letter.
Feeling pretty upset that I got deferred to CoE. I had extremely high SAT and perfect subject tests, as well as ridiculously high perfect GPA. The rest of my application was very solid.
However, I am NOT a first gen college student, or a female, or a URM. Canāt help but feel that Cornell fills a quota of these groups during early decision which is part of why i was deferredā¦ am i wrong?
Hi everyone. I was deferred from HumEc (which I thought was weird because arenāt they looking for the perfect fit?). I had a 1520, really good commonapp essay. Does anyone happen to know the percentage of people that are first deferred, then accepted RD?
@BobSagets me tooā¦ i have a 1520 and showed good fit, but my financial documents were still not fully processed. do you think that could have resulted in deferral? Iām also legacy and had an A in a course at cornell over the summer so idk.
Right now Iām going with the assumption that our chances are as good as people who apply RD, because those are the people we are compared to in the āregular review process in the springā. However, in my optimistic opinion, our deferral (instead of a flat rejection) indicates our applicationās competitiveness in this year particularly competitive ED/EA pool of applicants (15% more people applied compared to last year) ā so we might have a slight advantage there.
I may be reading the situation wrong, but I think Cornell has decided to keep their options a bit open this year in terms of the percentage of incoming class they admit, thus the reason for deferrals. Theyāre incentivized to do this because they know the deferred students still have Cornell as their top choice and will attend if accepted so they have a good read on the % yield rate as well.
All in all I think we should keep our heads up, because our hopes are very much still in the reach. Though I had confidence my ED application would succeed seeing as Cornell has such a high ED acceptance rate, when I take a step back and think about the special situation this year (an all time high in ED applicants) it is not hard to imagine their acceptance rate being just as difficult as RD acceptance rate if not more.
I spoke to a friend who currently attends Cornellā¦ Said a bunch of friends are deferred acceptances. If there is anyone else Info Sci that got deferred send me a message or reply here.
I kept up with the discussion thread and it seems that the Financial Aid office pulled in peopleās items and emailed people when their stuff wasnāt in. The admissions office and financial aid office operate separately. I knew something was up w/ my application when I had to email financial aid office asking if everything was ok since all my things showed up as āinitiatedā. So to answer your question - no it was 100% not a reason for your deferral.
Especially considering the fact that Cornell has a 14% RD acceptance rate, Iām really hoping that our ED status means something to them.
