Cornell, Duke, NW, CMU or Wash U?

What do you think between these schools:

Cornell, Duke, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Wash U

I'll be going to the engineering school. I have concluded that the academics are basically equal at all of these colleges, so I am now considering the atmosphere and (inevitably) the prestige. I am worried about Cornell's reputation as being cut-throat. I haven't been reading this board, so I'm sorry if I'm duplicating threads that have already addressed this issue. Any recommendations?

I suggest you read some of the posts from previous threads on the board COMING FROM ACTUAL CORNELL STUDENTS. The "cut-throat" myth seems to be the #1 concern of every potential enrollee. It's a shame, really.

Hahahaha, what's the deal with cut-throat. I haven't met an engineering student who is cut-throat at Cornell in the past three years. Premed and cut-throat, ummm....maybe. Engineer and cut-throat, definitely not true. If you really want to go for engineering, you should go to the school with the best engineering program/major of your interest. If you want to go to the school with the best engineering industrial relations, I would recommend you to go for either Cornell or CMU. Industrial Peer assessments don't lie. Cornell and CMU is superior than Duke, NU and WashU.

I once drowned a classmate's cat so he would be grieving and unable to pay attention to his studies. Actually I do this to all my classmates and there are about 700 engineers in my year so that's about 700 cats I've drowned. Was it worth it? The extra 0.054 gpa boost I got speaks for itself!

thats really werid

haha. wow, you are so cut-throat. i don't think i want to go to Cornell is shizz is going to be there..

just leave your cat at home

BTW: Shizz, there's a cat that poops a lot where one of my friends lives. Every time I go to her place I have to deal with that. It'll be good if you could take care of that cat as well for me. I know it doesn't raise your GPA or anything...

I'm graduating so any class of 2009 cats will be safe. CONSIDER YOURSELVES LUCKY

Shizz,

You're so freakin' hilarious - as you youngin's say - LMFAO

Being a small animal expert, you'e probably the guy who took care of the chicken at the Cornell / Harvard Hockey game also...

(do they still do that?)

Are you in charge of burning the dragon also?

Wharf

The dragon day thing is dying down. None of the engineers care about it anymore. It's usually the first year architects pouring out their heart and soul for god knows how long to make something elaborate while the engineers whip up together the night before on a 50$ budget.

...and the chicken?

I'm not aware of that. Although I have a horrific memory so there's a good chance I simply forgot what it is.

Throughout the 80's whenever Harvard came to Lynah rink, someone would sneak a live chicken into the stadium and during the first period break would jump onto the ice and tie the chicken to the goal that Harvard was going to defend the next period...

This was in addition to the normal sieve throwing and the traditional strip tease by the bear during the second break...

I guess they must have put an end to the chicken tradition...

Instead we throw fish onto the ice. Someone threw a squid and it got stuck to the ice hahahah

nice... cats, fish... you sure you're not pre vet?

JK

This is a much better topic then the OP's original question... but then again all you cut throat Cornellians have to relax doing something right?

Maybe we out to ditch the new shield/logo and just replace it with a skull & crossbones... sheesh...

If you want cutthroat go to ___________ (fill in the blank with your fav HYPS) - those folks are still trying to decide who's got the best stats...LOL

Go BIG RED

It all depends on the crowd you hang out with. Engineers tend to be the least cutthroat. The only cutthroat people are the crazy Singaporeans and Indians who come here on company/government scholarships and MUST maintain an abnormally high GPA if they want to have a career back home. Besides them, most people are at the very least nice. There seems to be a helpful and collaborative atmosphere. No one is out to screw each other because we already get screwed by the workload :)
