Cornell, Duke or UMich Engineering

Looking to apply to all three schools...not sure if I am willing to commit to ED to Cornell or Duke. UMich is early action. What are the chances of getting in during RD (35 ACT, 800's on Math II and Physics SAT subject tests).

Also, which school is better for engineering and what about the competitiveness of the students. I heard Cornell is "cut-throat". Any thoughts?

Still no guarantee. My son applied as a legacy with 35 ACT math and 34 overall plus 800 math2 and 790 chemistry plus two other 750+ scores and was rejected.

I guess you have to wonder what they are looking for or hope the admissions officer reading the application is in a good mood. (Just kidding)

Cornell engineering is hardly cut throat. I had many a night where I worked through problem sets with others in the same classes but complete strangers otherwise.

The academic competency of everyone makes the curve difficult though. Prelims and Finals make up a huge chunk of your grade so if you find yourself having trouble with writing tests, there’s not much you can do to get a decent grade (most classes value homework at 10-20%)
