I just got my offer of guaranteed fall 2016 transfer today from Cornell CALS AEM major. Originally I was planning to attend UC Berkeley and study in Haas. Wondering if it’s worth the the cold weather and extra 20k per year to study at Cornell AEM program.
Where does the 20k figure come from? Has Cornell given you an estimated aid package?
Cornell AEM is probably not worth an extra 60k+ (remember you have to account for the weather, travel, etc.), but you don’t have to make any decision just yet. You can start out at UCB-Haas, and have almost a whole year to think through whether or not you want to transfer for fall 2016.
Well I am an out of state student for UCB, so for tuition alone I’m already paying around 35k, Cornell would just be 15~20k more each year. I gues I’ll hold on to the spot and leave more doors open and see how things go at UCB first.
Note that admission to Haas is competitive and not guaranteed at all.
I would go to a local CC to save money and get good grades (it would be easier than at Cal) to ensure that you can transfer in to Cornell. If you do that, total cost over 4 years wouldn’t be that different.
And I can’t overemphasis this enough: a near guaranteed admit to AEM is much better than a chancy opportunity at Haas.
